Whitman Show in Baltimore March 31- April 2

Any of you guys and gals planning on attending? A few recommendations:
Check the dealer list and make a list of who's table you want to visit.
Best days to attend are Thursday and Friday. Saturday dealer attendence
will be a major disappointment. Take cash and then some more cash. Checks
and Credit Cards might not be accepted by some dealers. Take a break and
sit down in the snack bar area. Take plenty of pictures to share with the
Forum. Report back on your experience and the general of the show. Let's
get a meet/greet set up to see each other. Have a great time.

I plan on attending Friday since I will be on terminal leave and no longer really beholden to the Navy
If things seem decent, I may take the kids on Saturday.

 

@furryfrog02 What is "Terminal Leave"?

 

I will be there Friday. Wife may be tagging along. Still trying to convince her it is time to spring for the 09SVDB to complete my Lincoln collection...

 

He is retiring after 20 years of service.

Top of My Shopping List:
1. Fugio Copper (Cent) - VF-XF
2. 1811 Half Cent, "No Cud" Die State - F-VF (I've got the 4-Star die break variety, the "2-Star" die break variety is VERY expensive, R-7)
3. Draped Bust Half Cents - VF-XF

Very likely any one of those coins could end my shopping.

EAC dealers I'll visit:
1. Chris McCawley's table first.
2. Tom Reynolds table, but he's a true EAC dealer - all raw coins. That means no slabbed coins.
3. The Colonel's table might happen.
Those are the only dealers that I know are primarily EAC.
Any others?

Other dealers I like:
-- Angel Dee's for a "howdy" visit. I got my FE/IHC set from them.

I am planning on attending when the doors open at 10 am on Friday morning with two of my best buddies.

Scouting for additions to my Proof Barber Dime collection; a nicely toned MS 63 1917 Type 1 Standing Liberty Quarter; MS 61-63 Large and Half Cents; VF Bust Quarters; Proof Indian Cents and nicely toned Washington Quarters, Mercury Dimes, or Walkers.

What I have learned from prior shows is to look at as many cases as you can. Don't be in a hurry and be patient. There is always a good deal of eye candy to entice the bills from your pocket.

Sorry, somehow I missed out on the creation of the EAC designation, what does that mean? Seems to be something related to not TPG graded?

 

@iontyre EAC= Early American Copper. A very well established club whose
members study and collect pre 1858 copper coinage, Colonials, half cents
and cents. This area of numismatics is VERY VERY well studied. Their
newsletter and other researched papers are amazing to say the least. They
hold a yearly show/meeting, many times in the Mid West. They also have
meetings at large shows around the country. Hopefully the forum members
here can add to/correct what I just stated.

 

You're good. EAC knows stuff.

 

The yearly show starts May 12 in St Louis this year.
It will be the first I'll be going to.

Went to LCS at lunch since, sniff, I'm not going to Baltimore. He went yesterday and said:

Lots of empty space, huge swaths of it.

He saw the same, tired, old stuff, there was nothing 'new'.

People aggressively buying gold.

Anyone else have any insights? I'm debating about Gettysburg Easter weekend, but am not so sure now.

 

There's a show at the Maryland State fair grounds on April 9, and a few other local shows coming up.
