Rare set of South African coins from 1939, one of only 30 ever made, sold in New Zealand for $32,700 https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-po...ly-30-ever-made-sold-in-new-zealand-for-32700
@Maxfli You can magnify them in the catalogue. Slight improvement https://www.mowbrays.co.nz/files/catalogues/coin_cat_a28.pdf
Maybe it's just me, but my initial reaction was the seller left money on the table by not using a major international auction house
There's a lot of advantages with the currency exchange rate, Heritage having a London office, NGC being in London, PCGS being in Paris, Stacks being in Paris. There would be a lot of top end options for someone if that was the goal
Seems likes the buyer may have snagged a bargain @ USD22485. The link below is an equivalent set of 8 offered by Heritage Auctions in 2015 and compared in price to a set sold at $45000 (circa $65,000 NZD). Add 7 years inflation. https://coins.ha.com/itm/south-afri...-proof-set-1939-total-8-coins-/a/3037-31306.s
