I am mad. Upset. I looked at some change I was taking out of my purse from yesterday. I look down and see this coin. Im like O, look I accidentally was given a foreign coin.

But no, that is not it. I live without commercials. I do not Fb, Twitter, Snap it etc, I have Sirius in my car and do not watch the news. I am in complete shock. And heart broken. I had no warning. Im all for recognizing other people. But to take off 1 of our founding Fathers? I dont like it. Go erect a statue they dont want to tear down. Name some streets, park s,. Hell give them their own special day wherepeople get to stay home and still get paid.

But leave G.W. alone. Just saying i am upset.

What are we talking about? The Maya quarter? ...Washington is still on it lol.
Straight up...I'm loving the new GW portrait, which is actually quite old.
They did a spectacular job with Maya's portrait as well imho...

George washington is on the obverse as he has been for the past 80 years, the reverse is maya angelou.

Well.... Here's the deal. There was a design challenge held in 1930 for the obverse design of the new Washington quarter and it happens that Laura Gardin Fraser submitted the design you see. Of course her design was not used on the quarter and was relegated to this five dollar gold commemorative issued in 1999. I happen to think it is a much bolder Washington's bust and was happy to see the mint used Ms. Gardin's design for the quarter series that celebrates women.

It’s not actually terrible, we are just not used to seeing George looking to the right after 90 years of left-looking (?). I think his ponytail is odd, but otherwise the design is okay.

The series honoring impactful women does not have designs that make you want to order any special sets, “they” could have done better. For lack of any better descriptor I would just say the series is going to be ordinary, imo.

You don't do social media, watch TV, or read the papers, but you should have known all about this if you follow CT. This was covered a month or two ago.

I'm not a huge fan of the new Washington, but having something different to look at is what makes the world go around.

Did you catch the following comment from potty dollar 1878?

Still good old George, but yeah, these make you take notice in your change because they're so different. I thought until the clarification that this was going to be about a defacement or political counterstamp over George's face.

Some people have commented that they even feel different - cheaper even. They do. Which is weird, because they are the same weight and composition as their predecessors.

I'm not a huge fan of all the new quarters in general, having originally anticipated a return to the old design upon completion of the State Quarter program. Too many different quarters for too long is all. However I will be keeping my eye out for Sally Ride when she comes out, I do like that one from the preview. I'll also say that I like the 2022 obverse better than the one used from 1999 onward.

I was very pleased when they briefly brought back the "normal" Washington obverse for 2021, and I thought the reverse was well executed. I've been working on a roll of those from pocket change just because.

But...wait....I thought our coinage was too boring since it's barely ever changed.

(looking at you Roosevelt dime...) ;)
