List your coins that you won/ later regretted..... England AV Quarter Noble ND Annulet Issue 1422-30 FDC quality Tower Mint Henry VI 1422-61 House of Lancaster Stack's Theo Law Coll. of English Coins 2015 I sat down online, bidding started at 900US/ by the time it hit 1800US/ I was up against a coll. that kept outbidding me. Finally I ended up winning it for $4200US. I then realized how stupid I was
I don't recall any that I can honestly say I regretted, but there were a few that I seriously sweated until somebody outbid me.
Can't say that I have. I always go into an auction knowing what the fair market value should be and bid just under that. In many cases I end up winning the bid for less. So far I've been satisfied with the strategy. But I have seen quite a few over pay, even to recoup the loss in the long term. Then again, it depends on the bidder and how badly they need it.
The only auctions wins I've regretted are coins that I didn't identify correctly. I've tried to forget those occassions.
I did not win it at an auction, but I have to admit it was my first wife. Not a coin but harder than one! Got that off my chest, thank you.
The regrets that pop into my head are more things I missed out on. There’s a couple where they were good purchases at the time but there’s just some series no one cares about and things like 3 cent nickels just aren’t worth purchasing expensive ones unless youre rich and can get the best or the best of the best
That's an exquisite coin! I'd like to see an enlarged photo of it. Listen, a little perspective helps in this kind of situation. We all get into a bidding war from time to time, to varying degrees of course. We are living in a time when money is being thrown at coins and other tangible assets, including housing, which is freezing out virtually an entire generation of first time home buyers. And, who knows, that coin, if put in an auction might realize an even higher price. You have a wonderful coin, so try to focus on that and not crazy bidding.
I couldn't agree more. Try to forget the negatives and just enjoy the coin that you now have. Always worked for me. Bruce
There are several coins I had the feeling I had paid too much for by the time I bought them. Ten (or twenty or thirty) years later almost all of them look like they were bargains Q
So far that hasn't happened to me, I have been involved in only one coin auction and my opening bid won it.
I don't have any big regrets. There a few things that I over paid but it was a justifiable amount. My regrets are usually that I didn't go 1 more bid, or that the auction happened at a time the my finances didn't allow me to bid.
I regret that I got caught up in the auction fever and paid too much, but I don't regret the coin. It's an 1855-D gold dollar with a mintage of 1,811 and a surviving population of about 80. The market has begun to catch up with my mistake. I have not gone crazy on a world coin ... yet. A guy on the phone drove me up to a ridiculous amount and then he reneged on his bid. The auctioneer asked me if I would pay my previous high or have the lot reopened. I stupidly paid the high number.
Wow, a type 2 and Dahalonga Mint too! In MS-63 or higher these are costly. I just bought that AV ecu d'or au soleil (Henri III/ 1584-I) two known for 2K= great buy for rarity!
