Greetings all going through my president coins that I got at the ice machine next door they give change in dollar coins. I noticed immediately the different colors in the coins so after further investigation I came up with a clad ,missing that is. I also read something about split planchet or lamination. Or is this just another beat up coin. Thanks everybody.
Looks like environmental damage to me based on the edge pictures still a dollar. If it was a missing clad or improperly annealed planchet.I would expect the edge to look nice and shiny, basically new.On yours the dark tone matches the effect for the obverse and reverse.
Also this is a split planchet and I don't think laminations can happen for these. http://www.error-ref.com/split_plan_before/ https://www.error-ref.com/split_plan_after/
My first impression is a possible improperly annealed coin, but as mentioned, I think it is more just environmental damage.
I got to go with split planship there's too many similarities that I read on hobby and every one of them hit the nail on the head with my coin. By the way what are you guys think of hobby lark
