I sent this 1905 USPI peso in for grading

  1. This is my rare 1905 straight serif variety I sent in. Guess what grade it will come back as? Sorry for the blurry photos..

I concur with VF details but it’s right in the cusp of XF.

Where is the straight-serif PUP on the coin?

Not sure why you spent the money, but be sure to let us know the outcome when you get it back.

I am with Hommer on this one. Jim

  14. In vf it’s a 1500-2000 dollar coin and vf details it’s a 800 dollar coin.

  15. There are 9 identifiers but the easiest is the shape of the “1”

I ended up researching this and here is the answer I requested:

The main PUP ( pick-up-point) for this coin is the 1 of the date. Question answered.

Most of this mintage was produced with a inwardly curved top to the 1, but late in the production run a straight-serif die was employed to finish out.

Anyone needing more info can google the following:
    “Straight-serif Filipinas 1 peso 1905-S”.

Regarding the OP coin, the jury is out until a better, in-focus close-up is provided. The provided picture is too blurry to tell the difference definitively.

  17. Also the knob on the 9 is different between the straight serif and curved serif! The straight serif has a larger “knob” on the 9

I hope you are not disappointed when you get it back. It is a nice coin with a few issues, good luck. Thanks for sharing.

Okay, so I'm not familiar with values on foreign coin, but please remember, the "worth" of a coin is what someone is willing to pay for it, not what they list it for.
eBay has them for sale around $250.

Remember, please post the results when you get it back. It is a learning experience for us all.

Technically, a US-Philippine peso is not a “foreign” coin. Not entirely, anyway. Interestingly, “they are, but they aren’t”. They’re a semi-overlooked subsection of US coinage, even listed in the Red Book.
