Well the slappy-slappy is over and no slabs thrown at each other, so all is nice in the cointalk universe. Jim
Not intending to be argumentative, just making an observation. This is not intended as an attack. (BTY, I'm one of those old folks who've been around long enough to remember when it was what someone meant, not what you thought they meant). My comment relates to your opening sentence, quoted above. Unless your talking about spending your hard earned dollars on a great looking coin or picking out a thick steak at the market, when it comes to a conversation or comment, I would have to say that "perception is everything" is a false statement. Albeit believed by far to many people today. It makes an assumption and ignores the intent of the other party. I believe this unstable world we find ourselves in today has much to do with an over emphasis on "perceptions" fueled by and in social media. In my mind, it isn't "everything" but far too many people believe that it is. When one believes that what they perceive something to be, is everything, aren't they really making it all about themselves. This path quickly leads to narcissism. It feeds ones belief or feeling that their opinion can only be correct and anything else must be incorrect. Again, no comment on you personally, just my observation of a phrase. If you disagree, that's fine too.
Perception, is everything, here again! What someone means (intentions), and what someone interprets of another's intentions, is their own perception! Our perception of another most times carries judgement too. Lets say I'm upset about an ongoing issue, and I'm pretty much down, the world's gone to crap, my thinking is likely going to be negative, so my perception of things others say or do will be of a negative view, and if there is judgement in that perception then it carries over to judgement of "Heart Motive" (intent) of the other person! Perception is everything but the reason its often not correct is because its based on the state of mind of each one of us. If I'm on top of the world, just won the lottery, then my perception of things is influenced by the uplifted positive attitude of my state of mind. Perception with judgment! This is dangerous, this is to be left up to our creator! Judgement is when we think/believe we know the heart motives (intent) of another. Lets say I post a forum comment, in my heart I had no bad or negative intent, but someone in a negative state of mind, reads between the lines because they believe the world is out to get them and takes offense to what I wrote. Perception is everything (to that person), and in most cases it carries with it "Judgement" Judgement is judgement. My actual intend, your actual intent is really unknown, is that neighbor of yours being nice to you, because its in his heart to be nice, or is he buttering you up because he wants something? We cannot actually know what another's intentions really our, at best we have are perceptions of them or their motives. I have a sister-n-law, as hard as my wife tries to help her she thinks my wife is trying to in some way to emotionally hurt her, even YEARS later! Perception, it is everything (to ourselves), its most times wrong, and its ALWAYS wrong if it carries with it "Judgement" (it almost always does, that person is so annoying, I wish they'd vapor lock, I hope their dog dies, die's in a car crash, he deserved his wife slapping him in the mouth with divorce papers etc.. judgement.) Thanks for your input, its very interesting, but it'll probably be considered out of context, but its very interesting. What Color Lenses we put on changes 'Our' perception of things around use, so our perception is often times not based in truth.
Thank you Jim for "monitoring" What helps on these coin forums is to learn to be "Thick Skinned" and "Tenderhearted" Thanks again!!
I’m going with a draw on this one. I like when members disagree Senseably and worldly and intelligently
Think @Randy Abercrombie got my best answer for the same solution. It was a great answer. It was crazy but smoothed me out
On topic question! (really) I've been watching a 39 Lincoln Proof cent, I've got the 38 and the 40, I want to fill the gap I created. Okay, the one I'm watching is in an NGC holder its a PF-65RD and it also has a CAC sticker on it (whatever you know about them, is more than I know LoL). Now, I'd be happy with a decent deal on just PF-62 grade and nothing else for my purpose and money. So, what is gain (how much value) is there by also including a CAC confirmation grade to a coin? Take the 39 Lincoln proof cent with an PF-65RD NGC grade only vs the exact coin and adding the additional CAC certification? It seem like its going to cost me a LOT more money for this coin LOL!
I think CAC is added value, but not necessarily for every coin. It is best if you feel a coin needs grade vindication, have a coin that is undergraded, and want the value added, or have a very expensive coin that requires confirmation of the grade, in the event you wish to sell it. CAC is also good for coins that may have a huge price jump in the next highest grade, and you don’t want to crack out the coin, and resubmit, or go for crossover or reconsideration. If the coin is just to make yourself happy, just buy the coin you like, and don’t worry about an excessively high grade, or CAC stickers.
As usual I missed the final round who won? It was a draw, crap that's no fun. Glad I was in the restroom now!
