A few Buffalo images (thanks to Todd at BluCC). If you were a type collector and had to choose between these two, which would you pick? Why? First, the 37: Or the 37-D: Thanks for any comments. :thumb: I will weigh in later.
Given my druthers, I would take the obverse of the D and the reverse of the P. Somehow, I don't think that is what you are looking for. I guess the nicks on the chin on the D are the straw that broke the camels back in favor of the P. Gorgeous Indians!
I'd take the first one. I like the contrasts in toning between the gold on the high points and the grey/blue of the fields. The second coin is nice but the saturation of gold everywhere is a bit much. Guy~
Both the 37 and the 37-D are common Buffalo issues, pretty easy to find even in MS67. I favor the 37, which I bought from Mark Feld (a forumite we don't see nearly enough of here these days since he's re-joined CU). It has a blazing luster and stands out, even among other 67's in my collection. The 37-D has a nice color and strike and the strange marks on the chin, that I assume are mint-original but nothing that leaps out like the 37. Thanks for all the comments -- as usual, I learned something. Todd, as always, did a great job on the photos (another CU guy that I wish spent more time here).
There both Gems do I really have to pick?there both so nice I pick the 1938-D & somehow I get the 1937 too:thumb:
I would pick the P. The color is great and agree with the slight nicks on the D. I also see the infamous green bean on the D, not that I want to create a debate on the value of this. That did not have influence on my opinion.
Guy literally stole the words right off my keyboard!!! They are both nice, but I'd take the P for the toning. Love the colors.
They are both very nice, but you can't deny the exquisite above avegrage preservation of the CAC specimen.
