This Canada Cent seems to have a wide flat rim quite different than most cents. It is squared off on the ID and the OD. Is it just an anomaly? I have included close up photos and some from a different coin.
Looks normal to me. https://coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php?coin=1-cent-1999&years=1-cent-1990-2003
Ah I see. The square edged coin may be a proof coin. But I don't think the coin you posted is one due to the rough surface in the field.
I have hundreds of Canadian cents. All found in circulation. This is the only one with a strange rim. I first thought about proof. I appreciate the comments.
Were Canadian coins processed the same as our plated zinc coins? These look like they have plating blisters.
Man, I was thinking the same thing. I tried to look up metal content but did not make it. Oh look a chicken.
Canada had just begun using plated zinc in 1997, so they would've still been working out the kinks, like we were in the mid-80s. As for the rim, I think it's just natural variation, although an extreme of it. It's definitely not a set coin.
