Here's an easy poll for you guys that I thought might be interesting. I will leave it anonymous and you're welcome to add comments here if you'd like.

I'd just like to see how much use the album feature gets on CT. It's really a cool way for people to show and share at least parts of their collection with the forum. Here I am saying this and I haven't utilized mine yet! But only because I'm still learning the photo software program.

Without clicking on everybody's username, I was just wondering how many people use theirs and if people hadn't yet, why not?

For example, Lehighs is one of the best I've seen here. I'm sure his albums are far from his total collection but I appreciate that he has taken the time to share with us that portion of his collection. I've seen several other nice ones here as well. We all get to enjoy looking at what we otherwise never would have known was out there and see what this collector is interested in. Sometimes it can be inspiring. Most of the time this will be above average stuff that is very interesting to look at and adds quite a bit to the forum. IMO.

I fall in the "No, but I'd like to eventually category."

My vote was a no, but I will use. I always take a picture of any coin I have worth over $10. That's my system. So I just need to play with this CT app. Quite frankly had not even thought about it, but will start tinkering with it. Thanks for the thread to get me thinking on this.

I was wondering if other people have a dollar amount cutoff for when to take a picture of their coin.

I don't have an exact dollar amount cut off. It basically has to be something unique and pretty high quality for the amount of hassle involved to properly photograph it, get it on the computer, edit, and then drop it on my collecting software program. That usually ends up being higher dollars stuff but is not a rule. For some things, such as the Lincoln chronicles set, I used a stock photo. Sometimes I use seller's photos. Sometimes my own are better. For the sake of room, I try to limit the number of pics in the specific categories to outstanding or otherwise unique examples. Commemoratives all get their picture taken, reguardless of value.

I'm so disorganized maybe I should try this album feature. I have a ton of meaningless scans taking up disk space. Thanks for the headsup.

I love the album feature and have posted photos of my Conder Tokens, Civil War Tokens, and scanned silver dollars. It's fun to look at other people's albums and see what they collect. Catbert has wonderful photos of his coins and tokens.
One problem I've had though, is that my photos appear almost thumbnail size and cannot be viewed any larger. I'd already made them low resolution before uploading them, so if anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for this thread, I didn't even realize there was an album section. Guess I should pay attn. I have been trying to concentrate on my 1940 mint set and morgan set so I have been taking pics of all my new purchases of both..I don't have collection software yet, but I do put all my pics on the ngc registry...(even though my set will probably never be real competition for anyone) Now I can post the album here and share with the forum. Instead of one by one in threads.:thumb:

That might make a good way of determining what and when to photocopy. I know this is important, but it is very technically challenging for me personally.

"Yes, I use it for showing a few."...

...but it became a hassle after image size was reduced automatically by CT to the point you cannot see details which defeats the point. If Albums allowed you to upload larger images hosted elsewhere e.g. from Photobucket, then I'd use Albums more. Like many features of CT, I am all for them and have used them to my advantage, yet I am left with the feeling that the tools could be much much more effective if such restrictions weren't so severe on use(fulness).

That's an awesome token collection you have there. Great pics. I went and looked at Catbert's too. This was another aspect I was hoping this thread could achieve. I was hoping to find out who has the good albums so I could check them out too.

As to your question about them being only thumbnail sized.... I have seen this brought up in the support forum. The answer is that you supposedly just have to give it time and eventually they will be larger without doing anything. A glitch in the system I guess.

They were not ALL reduced and I have no idea why what was and why what was not. I "lost" about 3/4 of the images I had up. You are correct. The icon sized images are virtually useless and it is a pain to reload them and try to keep them in order.

Mine were also - WHEN I LOADED THEM. You are supposedly limited to Maximum File Size per Picture 97.7 KB
Maximum Picture Dimensions 600 by 600 Pixels
It took mine fine at first. A couple weeks later, something happened to them and they got shrunk. From what I have seen, many other's also got shrunk.

That's precisely when I stopped uploading images to the albums, now if only remotely hosted image files could be uploaded to the albums so larger images could be displayed that might get me interested in adding more imaged coins to my album pages.

GD always says that if there is enough interest in a feature that Peter will consider it, so if we all figure out what we want and request it, perhaps the album tool can be improved for use in the future.

That's strange. I see you still have quite a few pics of some sweet Lincolns left. I looked at big's pics and compared. Both your pics and his are between 10 to 16KB sizes. Moonshadow's are around 6 KB. I wonder if they are working on the glitch? Maybe Peter could weigh in here.

I just looked at them and none of them look shrunk on my computer.

Tiiiiiny pictures. I intended to upload all of my modern coins here. But the shrinkage really makes the whole feature useless. I'm not a big fan of the overall presentation either. I much prefer the gallery I use for my ancients, in my signature line.

I looked at the two I have which shrunk, and realized that even though they were under 97.7kb they were more than the 600x600 that the site allows...all the ones that stayed large were under that # it says pictures will be automatically sized down but doing it manually is prefered...I sized the two down under 600x600 now they are full size again...hope this helps...
