cmezner, Congrats on winning my Philip I Tet. from AMCC 3 . I was under the impression that no one from CT bid on the coins I had in that auction. Pictured below is a photo I took of that coin in natural diffused sunlight.
My favorite ex-Cointalker coin, and one of my favorite coins in my entire collection is from @stevex6 whom the administrators here banned and then badmouthed via PM when some of us attempted to appeal it. I wasn't supposed to say that second part but honestly I see no reason to keep it under wraps at this point. I admired this coin when Steve bought it and posted it, even though at the auction that day I felt it was a little expensive. Even so, after a couple years of regretting not buying this coin, when I had a second chance to buy it out of Steve's collection for about the same price he paid, there was no question. It's a common type, I could have perhaps waited and found a better deal but none of them would be this coin, with this provenance, both to a friend and to the famous Knobloch collection, and ultimately, try as I might, I couldn't find any other examples with such wonderful and dramatic overstriking. Most of this type are just a mess from the overstriking but this coin is really as close to two coins in one as you can get with the very prominent undertype and legible undetype legend. I've seen a number of examples of this type sense then, both in a die study and in many old auction catalogs and none I liked as much as this coin so I am very happy I had a chance to purchase it. That is a fantastic coin (I love the undertype peeking out of the galley prow!). I wish I hadn't been absent from CT during the @stevex6 era! (Plz don't get yourself banned too!) From his coins posted in various replies, it was clearly a fantastic collection. Wonderful backstory to this coin, too, from Knboloch --> RBW --> stevex --> yours. (I see that someone has added the Knobloch provenance in a comment to the ACSearch record of CNG 364, 90.) I checked this one on your page of Provenance paraphernalia & tickets (great resource for comparing collector tags, envelopes, etc.) and was amazed at how many "hits" each one has: almost 14,000 for this one (not even the highest by quite a margin)! Apparently there is quite a demand for such information (I need to get busy putting my "collector tag database" online too)!
Another person I didn't realize was (or is) a Coin Talk member. I have one coin from @Sallent: Probus, billon tetradrachm, 277-278 AD (Year 3), Alexandria, Egypt Mint. Obv. Also, I noticed that @jamesicus was mentioned in this thread. I see that he hasn't been here since last July. I'm almost afraid to ask, but has anyone been in touch with him?
The laws in my country are very strict about ancient coins. I only buy from European auction houses and I keep each invoice in perfect order. This is why I don't even look at US auctions or any other sources of coins. However, I received first hand info that this coin is from @Ryro's collection, available in an European auction, so I gladly got it. Titus, as Caesar AD 76-78. Rome. One reason why I think it's important to document and share provenance of as many coins as possible, even if it's not highly valuable (financially) or prestigious -- you never know who that information may be valuable to in the future, often in unanticipated ways!
It is a wonderful portrait of Philip I. I am very happy to have it in my collection A perfect picture, thank you so much! May I ask if you have also a picture of the reverse that you can share
That's me. In general once I find a provenance for a coin, or in some cases correct a provenance for a coin, I'll add notes to its entries on ACSearch. In one case 4 separate auctions over several years had copied the wrong provenance for a coin of mine. Hopefully my coins won't lose their provenances but if they do I want it to be easy for future owners to reunite them with the coins. I'm always amazed by how many hits some of the coins on my website get. I assume many of the hits are bots but I do occasionally get emails from other collectors and researchers discussing my coins. I hope my provenance scans are useful for others. I've learned quite a bit sharing them with other collectors and being told "oh that's RBW Handwriting" or "yeah that handwriting and red ink tells you it's SC Collection".
I have a handful from CT members, and several specifically from @lordmarcovan . Here are a few of them.
About 75% of the coins that appear in my auctions come from CT members, either as consignments or coins I've bought. But about half of the consignors prefer to remain anonymous. So if you've bought a coin from me, there's a significant chance it came from another CT member, even if it didn't come with a provenance.
1862 Australia merchant token- they are a little more uncommon. It's a part of my "countries I've traveled to" sub collection.

A good part of my collection has been gifted to me from the incredible, generous people of this forum. It blows my mind every time I look at them!
