Seller states this to be a 1914-D Lincoln Cent, But??

I don't think so, I think its something else and its not been altered either.
Comment as to what you think it is, and they why you think so.
The seller isn't a coin dealer either!

Looks counterfeit to me.

 

Could be a 1944? Look at the spacing.

 

Agree with Kentucky... I would pass on that.

 

Here’s my altered 44 for comparison.

 

Interesting, I've got a number of images of altered 44-D's and in about everyone of the them the "D" mint mark is better centered between the 9 & 1
So, that means that the 44-D's have some different mint mark locations
Here is an image that I have of a altered 44-D (notice the mint mark location)
So, how does the ones below compare to the one on the title post?

Well, the mint mark location doesn't match any known location for a 14-D.
The seller is asking a bit over $180.00 and I think they probably believe its a
14-D.

Here is a zoomed in photo of the coin, does the second 1 look more like the first 1 or more like the 4 to the right of it?

 

Spending a good bit of time looking at this 14-D and playing with the pictures my thinking is this,
The coin isn't a counterfeit.
Nor has the coin be purposely altered.
So the nick name (term) I've came up for this one is "Corrosion Convenience"
Its appears this coin is nothing more than a badly corroded 44-D
The corrosion has worked its way around that 4 (outside in) giving it an alteration effect.
If you look closely you can see some of the inside (cavity) of the open part of the four, then you can pick out fragments of other parts of the four.
Plus the mint mark is SPOT on for at lest one verity of the 44-D

You can clearly see it is a 1944 in the OP.
Also try to get a clear blow up of the left side of the jacket (his right lol) where the VDB appears (after 1917?) as the 1914 won't have it, and the 1944 will. This coin isn't even worth 2 cents in this condition.

 

That’s a 44-D with conveniently placed corrosion.

 

Shape of the shoulder where VDB is located looks altered then corroded to cover it.

 

I just sent the seller a very NICE message stating I was just trying to be helpful. I sent images of the 14-D mint mark locations, close ups of his coin marking the faint details left of the corroded 4.
If the seller removes the listing or corrects it, I'll let everyone here know!

Yes your right. Thank you for pointing that out. Luckily I paid about a Pennie for that one. I just look at it under high-power jeweler stereo microscope. Nice to know that.

Got lots more cool coins coming out. I might get to the two cent and three cent nickels today, probley tomorrow.
