I too have trouble keeping my collection organized, so that’s one reason I like to keep it relatively small.

Yep! @Paddy54 pedigree on that medieval Reigate Hoard groat!

You let me pay on it over time, too, which I haven’t forgotten.

We have horse traded so many times now....its a wonder we haven't ended up with the same coin traded back again. Well we both actually have champagne taste, and a beer budget at times...lol
What are friends for ?..... to help one another to support their habbits. ;)
And buddy there isn't a member here whom your Genousity hasn't touched.

Lord Rob. Your Eclectic Collection seems to have puffed up a bit from the box of 20. A magnificent treasure chest. Collected booty from around the world and the Banner Image is mesmerizing. I have always wondered how you had the fortitude to hold to that number. Sort of Sophie’s Choice of the numismatic world. Now I see it has fudged a bit. In any event, your Eclectic Box spurred me on to just pick what I liked looking at these last few years and that is what I have done.

As I peruse the pages of your album each category has its own appeal and I vacillate from Ancient to Medieval to more modern. You have done a great job of refining each category. As I learned many years ago, no matter how good or how affluent you are, there is always someone better or more affluent, or soon to be so. In the end, you can only enjoy what you are doing, and do it for your own pleasure.

I enjoy looking at all of your collections, so many fine pieces. At the moment I’m drawn to Ancients. The Greek Thrace, Athena & Owl, Roman Ceres & Curule Chair, and Roman Vespasian.

Entry Post - I really covet the Palestinian 5 mil from 1944. What an amazing piece of history. If chosen by the magic machine I would choose that one, or any world silver from the mid 20th century. Asia preferred. Thanks for the really generous contest.

The 1837 Feuchtwanger's Composition coin looks really interesting. Also love the Hawaiian coins! Currently learning about Hawaii in APUSH, some interesting history there!

Interested in B-World Coins! Thanks for the giveaway!

It was worth it just to go back over all those write ups. I can barely post anything let alone give such detailed descriptions.

I’m naturally a contrarian, so even though I like them all, I’m drawn to the Peacock token, the double struck six pence and the inscribed deployment medal. Nice to see the holey hat is being revived.

The inscribed deployment medal belonged to my maternal grandfather. It is a purely sentimental inclusion in the collection, since as an unpublished type, it is ineligible for TPG certification.

That’s how I remember him, of course, in older age. Note how he towers over the other soldiers in that old news clipping. He was very tall.

PS- he ended up stationed in Tampa, Florida. I don’t think he ever went overseas with the military, though he traveled a lot as a civilian and died in Belgium.

That’s why it’s such a great piece. TPGs are helpful for selling which isn’t going to happen with such a sentimental medal.
