GTG: 1938 D toned Jefferson Nickel

You folks know what to do. No polls. Please state reasons for your grade, and rationale.
TrueView is pretty accurate of both color, and coin’s surfaces.

I am not very adept at Jefferson or Buffalo nickel grades. But I really like this one and will say MS65.

 

I like totally agree! Totally awesome and tubular like the 80's all over again!

 

MS66. I am not sure, but it seems I am seeing "wipe" marks in the toning, like the coin was wiped off and left a residue and the toning brought it out. Not from cleaning the die, IMHO. Still a nice coin no matter what.

I think that is just the patina of the toning. Sometimes, one gets very silky surfaces from album toning like that. Other times, it can be very patchy.

 

I'd have to say MS66 and I see what MM is saying about the toning looking "wiped" but I think is natural (i've seen a few tone like this) Very very nice nickel. Gonna add my 1st thought on seeing the post was 38 d jefferson... but 38 is a buffalo... Hate "overlap" years lol...

 

MS66. I think that the toning on the obverse is nice and even. A little distracting on the reverse, but better there I suppose. If it didn't confuse the eye, I think it might grade higher, but hard to say if the graders were stymied by it or accept it as natural. A very nice coin!!

 

The obverse is stunning and a 67. The reverse, I would want to see if those are hairlines. I've seen details grade for that look. Otherwise a 66+.

MS 66+ ...clean, colorful, and lustrous.....looks very similar to the one I posted recently (had to look back at mine and compare )

Beautiful coin. I’m at a MS-66 on this one.

 

Very similar, and makes me wonder about both being from the same album or roll. What are the odds? Yours is a bit richer on the reverse, and does not have the patches in the reverse. The holders were close in submission number, too. I will post both at the reveal.

Obverse 66 reverse 65. The obverse toning appears more natural looking then the reverse. The coin looks as though it has been cleaned or rubbed with a coin glove or cloth. My overall opinion, undecided could be either or? Very nice coin thanks for sharing.
