    Hi all!

This coin just came in from a small lot on eBay. It is an antoninianus of Gallienus

    gallienus iovi propvgnatori.png

However, the reverse appears to be IOVI PROPVGNATORI, which is not known for Gallienus antoniniani. The closest match I can find are ants with the reverse IOVI PROPVGNAT (a shorter legend), although mine has ε in the left field, while the others have XI. The style of my coin may also indicate it's from Siscia mint (the others being from Rome mint)

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Yes, from Siscia. MIR (Gobl) MIR 1438i. See José de Sousa's catalog of the Frank Reinhardt collection p.292. That's not an epsilon in the left field, though. It's Jupiter's paludamentum swaying out in front of him.

He illustrates the coin and describes it as:

    Atelier:
    Siscia, 3ª emissão

    Referência:
    MIR 1438i
Ano: 265-266 Anverso: GALLIENVS AVG /
    Busto: Sis 01,B1
    Reverso: IOVI PROPVGNATORI /
    Jupiter

My only thought is that we must not assume that something do not exist just because we failed to find it in whatever list we checked. I noted this site
    http://www258.pair.com/denarius/cgi-bin/erfind.pl?sstring=propvgnatori
linked to another site saying it was better than his
    http://www258.pair.com/denarius/
which listed other pages advertised as better but included a search result
    http://www258.pair.com/denarius/cgi-bin/erfind.pl?sstring=propvgnatori
that showed a coin with PROPVGNATORI spelled out but had a different pose on the figure. I do not know if the author of that page is still maintaining that page and might be interested in hearing from you or not. I assume there is someone out there who is maintaining a list of new finds for Gallienus but I do not know who it is.

Now I see that Roman Collector found it making all my typing worthless. To post or not to post - That is the question.

    Thanks! That's the one :D.
I wasn't aware of that resource, so I'll have to use it more often!

I'll have to use that site more too. I mainly use acsearch when IDing coins, and none came up when I searched for "Gallienus" "propvgnatori", so I assumed that either the type was unknown (not very likely), or that it was in a reference I was not aware of (much more likely).

I'll save a bookmark of that one
