Been gone for several days. The much better pictures he posted right after my last post (#56) definitely nail it down as just a flip over double strike. Until then I couldn't determine why a portion of the big leaf was missing. But with the new pictures it is clear that that portion of th leaf did not strike up because that is the field area below the queens chin and to the righ of the neck. The raised bust of the queen and the neck provided the material to fill out the leaves but the missing section of the leaft had no material because it could not reach the lower relief field area. You will note the contour of the missing edge of the leaf exactly matches the the edge the the jaw throat area. A significant error and it is an R-8 or USR-1 coin, but so is every striking error since not two are identical. But it is no more valuable than any other flip over double strike.

And if you can get that Canadian collector to offer you the $10,000 again take the money and run because it isn't worth anywhere close to that. (Most likely if such an offer occurred, the collector had no clue what he was looking at or what it was worth.)

Since the question was asked, I'll provide a short answer. We Canadians watched this evolution with a combination of abject horror and stiffled amusement. It was a repeat performance of the episode we went through with him on our main discussion board (CCRS). I noted that he signed on as a "junior member" by his name and we all thought that age was part of his problem since he seems to be one of those who fails to grasp the concept concerning the meaning of the word "NO" and his English needs more than a little polish. Maybe he would have gotten the hint if we called his coin "getreal-ache" or "wedontcare-ache" or "pleaseleave-ache". He was removed from our site and his auction (for either $3 or $6 million) was also 86'd from Ebay. I enjoy your site and commend your patience with this fruitcake.

    Bill:
    Thank you for your post.

    Moving along:
I haven't read this since I posted, on the 1st page.

I just read it, and feel that is about 30 minutes of my life that I will never get back.....

One thought: If you really feel that way (about your coin) then why do you insist on defending it to a bunch of non-believers.

I would have left pages ago.

    Never to return....

    Do you enjoy the punishment?

I LIKE this thread because it reminds me of "Little Shop of Horrors" where the fellow keeps going to the Dentist, just to receive a little "Stimulation".

Or is that a fish in that barrel? With a sign on it's back.

    Anybody bring a gun?

Yes, thank you VERY much, Bill!!! Was hoping someone who was already familiar with this guy and his 'million dollar errors' would chime in. Your comments just about put the icing on 'Themansionshops' cake.

I agree. I can't believe some people pick on a person who chooses to "collect" what they want. Is this what CT is all about?

If you know that the coin is "damaged or worthless" then why not just ignore it and move on. Or tell the guy "good luck" and let them learn. The coin is worth face value IMO but I am not going to fight the guy online....lol

How can you ignore someone that continues to pollute the forum? I even commented early on that as long as HE enjoys what HE collects, thats all that matters (I wanted to just 'wish it away'...but 'TMS' drags me back by calling me a clown, and then he insults certain other members). However, HE can't accept that, and INSISTS WE see the coin for what HE SAYS it is. Has anyone gone to the CCRS site that Bill in Burl mentioned, and read up on the happenings of that coin? I don't exactly know when it ALL started, but if you go back to the first post on 1/27/2010, read 'carpmans' thread 're: the 1977 cent $6 million error', then read 'bigbrassboy's first post entitled 'update to me from seller... '. If the 'ebay seller' these guys mention that sent them messages is, indeed, TMS, then he has alot more issues than simply believing his 'Pennache' is a multi-million dollar coin. (I can't exactly link the page due to CCRS's format being somewhat different than here, but go to http://www.canadiancoin.com/, then at the top (or bottom) of the home page, find/click 'discussions', and click 'next page' till you get to 1/28.......its 'cuckoo-for Cocoa Puffs' time, folks...seriously...I hope 'Bill in Burl' comes back and comments on this)

My CCRS post on the '$3 million/$6 million coin redux' was to inform other members there that our friend had surfaced on another website(yours), replaying the same old record. His first posts on CCRS go back much further than the recent thread that I started. In regard to "notsure"'s post about why just the guy's obstinance was not the guy's only problem. Here is a cut and paste from the CCRS forum from our demented friend in response to button-pushing by our members ...
" By the way Sir, for your information I have included your name in the " suspect list" in case something happens to me, you see your friend that put that listing , the one where he took a penny and put it on the other penny and slammed it with a hammered, you know that nice BLOW to the penny, and your telling me how you have been collectiong 30 years and my coin is the same than mine...right? I think that I should be concern about you and your buddy and since you wanted to be part of my auction, well I have found just the right place for you and your friends....in my " suspect" list. i mean why would someone want to put someone like you and your friend who took a hammer and made a BLOW to another penny with a hammer and you 30 years of error experience telling me " It's the same:) " so why would anyone not be concern about something like that? DO not respond to this message and be sure that your E-BAY ID will noted and if I go missing or something happens to me , be sure to be ready to be picked up by the RCMP:) and I repeat .. DO NOT Bother me again."

The guy first showed up on the CCRS site on 1/18, signing on as "leaf hair", both as a new member and the "discoverer" of a new find. He called his discovery the "Lucky 7 Leaf Hair Penny" and started extolling its virtues .... he got no response to his posts. Then he put the coin up on Ebay for a start of $73, 477 on 1/22. He was reported to Ebay as a scam by a member or members of the CCRS site and it was withdrawn. The 1/22 date also is when private emails started flying back and forth between the seller and CCRS members.... from the pictures, you couldn't tell what he had and we made fun of it. Then, he put it back up on Ebay for $6 million on 1/25 and had given his "Lucky 7 Leaf Hair" a new name ... "pennache", along with an explanation of how the name came about and new claims to fame. Then, one of our members (biggrassboy) went out to the garage and smacked 2 pennies together with a hammer, photo'd it, and put it on Ebay for $.99 plus the cost of a stamp. The auction description had a full explanation of how he did it, including the weight of the hammer, the size of the vise, and the hardware store where he bought the hammer ... along with an offer to punch out as many as a customer wanted to save themselves $6 million. The guy went berzerk (the email that I cut & pasted above came about then) and more emails went back and forth, with the $6 million dollar man having the smashed penny auction removed "for violating RCMP rules" and his original auction was removed as well. I will not get in to regurgitating all the info in the posts that you'lll find on the CCRS site, but many of the guy's email responses were "cut & pasted" back onto the CCRS site to show just how much cheese had slid off this guy's cracker. There were CIA and FBI watchlists, RCMP to knock on our doors, and his suspect lists, with CCRS member's names, secreted away with a third party in case something happened to him or he disappeared .. and on & on. You really have to read all the posts from the beginning on the CCRS board.... it's a hoot!

On the CCRS site, if you use the "search" button on the first page, you can type in some key words that you knew were in a post (words can also include the poster's name). So if you knew that xxx posted something on subject xxx, then you search for it and the archives will spit out all the posts that have those words in it. If you are a patron of the site, it will allow you to search through 10 years .. well worth the money ($25 or more) because much research is found on those pages, sometimes years before published elsewhere. If you are not a patron, I am not sure how far back it will allow you to use the "search" function, but you can manually go back to the dates involved by doing what "notsure" suggested ... hitting the "back" key and the "next" and "next" ad infinitum. Since I am a "patron" I can't double check for you whether the "search" function will work for you... but if you enter 1/18 or "Lucky 7", you should be able to go to his first sighting on CCRS. The next date (I think) is 1/22 and then 1/25. The 1/26 date in a thread titled "hee...hee...hee" is the entry where one of our members made a smashed coin that mocked his $6 million coin, and gave the Ebay auction number for it ... good reading. More threads concerning him followed through into Feb and we thought the guy had disappeared .. but then he showed up on your forum.

Bill, did anyone on your forum identify to him what it really is? (and it is NOT a hammer job.)

I believe that they did, but they were trying to pull his chain first. We have 3-4 very accomplished error folks on there. They told him what it "could" have been, but he only sent us those first few crappy, fuzzy photos so there was nothing definitive decided. They were not like the ones you guys got toward the end or your episodes.
