I received an pm from Alan about a 1943 P ms fs nickel. This really nice specimen has what apears to have a double eye.
Now the 43 P Jefferson is know for its varities. 70 + rpms alone ,ddo, ddr's,over date...and god only knows what else.
Alan this type of doubling I personally have not seen... it I had a nickel for every Jefferson nickel Ive looked at in my time I be rich.

After studying your specimen doesnt have eye lashes, and the real variety does, your eye is doubled in the line of sight not below in the real variety does. Lastly and this was the key to my answer notice the forehead that there is md. With the two areas so close that doubling of theveye is in fact md.
Sorry but that doesn't mean you dont have a lesser ddo as some of the lettering looks split serifs. download.jpeg.jpg this is the real one. F720D4A7-703F-477F-8B06-14D220679700.jpeg-2.jpg

Interesting isn't it. I once posted elsewhere that machine doubling adds no extra value to a coin.
I was promptly corrected. I do not argue, I hate to be corrected or proved wrong.
Well, I don't know much about errors and varieties but if some machine doubling does add value, and that is what this is, then this would certainly make a good argument.
I've seen this before but never as sharply struck.
I have no idea except it's pretty cool and a beauty of a war nickel too.

I agree but that lump on Toms head and the direct line up of the 2 eyes...and there are 2 eyes make no mistake about that... a very cool coin that yes would be a nice specimen to teach with as well talk about.

Some say it took a wiggle or a giggle I say this one did but perfectly.

I think it may have been scratched and it looks doubled? Could be wrong, but it's just a thought.

Not having in hand its a tough call but that lump sez md. As this is in an ngc holder in a 66 fs so if it was scratched it would of been bagged.

    On Etsy, it's a $50,000 coin.
Seriously, I love seeing that one. Thanks for the post.

I'm pretty sure I have a Kennedy Half like that somewhere around here...but where...who knows. Got all excited and then took a closer look; reality smacked me back down to earth.

    Still pretty cool looking, though.

I've heard a few people on social media saying they've been able to sell machine doubling for worthwhile premiums. No verification, though, so who knows.

You know when you find something special like this ,and you let it go....one needs to think will I find another....or show me another one.....lastly it is a nice coin, but ...not that valuable that it break you to hold on to.... its definitely an unusual piece ....that give one a what....this moment.

For some reason the doubled eye variety is tough for me to spot. This sure looks like it to me. Let us know once you have it in hand.
