I would like to know if this 1922 Peace Dollar is a Proof or intended for circulation? The edge looks wider and more square than the other coin in the pictures. Also the reeding is more square. The first 3 pictures are the coin in question and the following pictures compare this coin to a different Peace Dollar. Please note that some of the secondary comparison pictures show the coins on different sides, both left and right meaning the coin in question can be on the left or right. Thank you for the help!
I'm not sure as I'm not too into Peace Dollars. I'll tell you this though, your Coin is not a Rare Proof Coin. Sorry. Value of 1922 Proof Peace Dollar | Rare Peace Dollar Buyer (coinappraiser.com)
Not a Proof. the 1922 High relief matte finish, well it's different on the reverse. there's other diagnostics but here is the BIG one circled in red, yours has 2 rays below ONE and a 3rd going through the N, the matte proof coins have 3 rays below ONE and a 4th going through the N. this right there tells you all you need to know without going further.
I just thought it might be a proof coin because of the reeding on the edge. The reeding looks really square and looks like it really hasn’t been in circulation. I also do understand it’s not a high relief. Also, thank you for the responses!
Appreciate it amnight. just saying that if it isn't the high relief, then it isn't the proof either. that's what the proofs were that year, high relief, matte finish. reverse with 3 rays under ONE. if it isn't, it's not the proof. At best you have a strong circulation strike coin, maybe one of the first off a new pair of dies, or just an over pressure issue with the press that gave it a strong strike.
^^^^ Agree with this. And in regards to the 1922 high relief USA Coin Book says: The US Mint originally produced 35401 of these 1922 High Relief coins (mostly non-proof business strikes intended for general circulation) before going to a Normal relief design. Nearly all of these high relief coins were melted down a short time later by the US Mint. Only about 10 to 12 High Relief 1922 Proof (Matte Proof) Peace Dollars are estimated to exist. One stray non-proof business strike coin also exists!
Yeah, probably. Now that I think about it? If you were just getting into Peace Dollars, and didn’t know any better? A YouTube video might be convincing?
