I opened a sealed box that I’ve had for years. Inside were several things. So I opened a small one and it contained these two coins. A half Dollar and a Dollar coin of the 1994-P Baseball Hall of Fame coin, the glove. Labeled as FIRST STRIKE. The dollar is an MS-69 and the half is a Proof 69 deep cameo.

It made me think of my sister. Before she passed away she was the executive secretary to the president of the Baltimore Orioles. At this time of year she would be in Florida at the training camp for the O’s. She loved her job. Yes, I miss her very much.

Isnt that a concave coin like the Apollo coins? Do they use an extra thick slab on those?

    Lovely coins.

My condolences regarding your dear sister. The pain of loss lingers oh too long....

Yes and Yes. It was the first one they did it on and made the coin widely popular/successful.

Yes it is and the slab is quite thick. If you have a box that holds slabs it isn’t going to fit.

Yes it does. I miss my mom and dad too but they were older. My sister was older but not than much. She died young.

You continue to amaze me. No way could I not rip into a package I knew contained coins the second I received it. No wonder your 100 pack of $500 notes were just discovered. LOL

Never knew this about these coins...extra thick and concave on glove side while convex on ball side...thought it was all a 3-D-like optical image design on a regular planchet. Wild. Thanks for sharing these.

The glove is much easier with an iPhone than a fancy set up

When you work from darkness in the morning and drove home with a little light showing six days a week for years it takes its toll. It provides lots of extra money for essentials like coins but as long as you get the package you just don’t care. :)

Sometimes my phone works great and other times I blame the cell phone. It may be me but so refuse to admit it. Lol

I know I’m not alone but this coin really makes me think of her. She gave my wife and I a tour of the offices. I met a number of players that now work there that I used to watch on the field. We shared a few exciting plays. Also got a tour of the stadium and saw a game with seats behind home plate. Almost got a foul ball but my wife got scared and dropped her drink on the seat in front of her when everyone in the immediate area scrambled for the ball. Lol

I had not gotten into coin collecting until after my mother passed. My dad had a coin collection, but my mom would not let my brother have it until she passed in 2016. It wasn't a lot, but it got me into coin collecting. I did get into the Apollo 11 coins, etc. The Apollo 11 convex/concave silver coin is a beaut. I was stationed at Fort Bragg when Apollo 11 set down on the moon. I took leave so I could watch on TV.
Anyway, I never got a chance at the baseball glove. My son collects baseball cards and I know he would have loved one. Can't afford one now.
