Hello everyone, Yesterday was a beautiful President's Day here in NYC. I was off so I did a 7 hour Metal Detecting at a new location in the Bronx. Modern Buffalo & Native American Belt Buckle 1945 P Silver War Nickel 3 Rings - 1 Copper & 2 18K Gold Filled Everything Dominican Republic - 1 Peso 1969 Shell's Coin Game Interesting info in the following website - https://www.coins-n-medals.com/Exhibits/ShellGames/ShellStatesGame.html
Always fun seeing what you found. Cap gun got me wondering: wonder if you'll ever find a real one to crack a cold case.
I detected an area in Denver over 10 years ago. Called 5 points, in the 80's and 90's this area was terrible with crime. Multiple shooting every night. Drive By's. I must have found 30 shells in about 10 minutes, the next thing I see is a cop that had pulled up about a hundred feet behind me. He was just sitting there watching me. I walked up to him and asked if I should be turning them in as evidence. He laughed and said no. But you are in the worst area of Denver right now. If I were you, I would be worried that you might find something someone would kill you over? Be careful, I am not gonna tell you to leave, just making sure you know the consequences. I left.
Dang man!.... I spent four hours running up and down a beach adjacent to a 150 year old lighthouse Sunday. All I got for my trouble was a large caliber bullet, some kids jewelry and a backache....... I am interested in knowing what that kickstand is on your detector. Is that just a shovel stuck in the ground that you rested your machine on?
Paddyman has a talent for sure...and some excellent spots locally. I'm interested in getting back out there this spring once the ground thaws a bit.
Ed, yet another nice haul. Have you ever spent hours detecting and NOT found a bunch of stuff? I'm still rooting for you to find that gold coin. Good luck, and I mean that.
If I go somewhere and for the first 3 hours I only dig a few coins I usually head to another park where I know I will find good stuff.. My wife always tells me "You should of gone to the other park first".. Hehe she doesn't understand that I have to scout new areas to see what it gives up.
Now that I picked up the Vanquish, I need to get to a few old spots to canvas once again. I've only about 2 hours on the new machine...I need to budget time!!
Neat.. Use the first setting which is Coins. Dig everything 27 to 40. That's the silver range numbers. 15-18 are nickels and silver nickels but also beaver tail pulltabs
Thanks for the tips! On my old, less discriminating metal detectors, I learned to dig everything. And it paid off many times. Still, I'm sure that I'll have to go through a learning curve with this machine, but that's just part of the job. I do appreciate the 'smart' technology that they imbed in these newer machines, but the trust factor has to be developed. I'm too skeptical to trust something is junk after digging up some valuable pieces (rings, coins).
