Ae sestertius of Maximinus thrax with Fides Militum reverse... Ae sestertius of Philip with Fides Militum reverse...
Octavius, Thanks for posting these two magnificent sestertii ! I haven't seen a finer sestertius of Maximinus Thrax .
Most ancient coin collectors who have been in the hobby a long time will admit to over-paying for some coins in their collection, I certainly have . About a week ago I made a note to follow the coin pictured below that sold at the Heritage auction last night because of this thread that I planed on posting. Can anyone in their right mind justify paying $480.00 for this coin !
I think it must be a case of the decimal point being in the wrong place. A classic example of the slab being worth more than the coin.
I got a similar coin lately too but with to much dirt on it so I cant say how good it will look once cleaned. The price was a liiiitle bit lower though Emperor Claudius II. - Antoninianus - FIDES MILITVM - Cyzikus mint?
