Those are all some very nice looking coins, I'm jealous, lol. Oh this is interesting, and makes me want to hunt even harder for one. There may be a few that you posted that I missed, or perhaps they didn't issue a 1981 so I skipped over them, but those are all really cool coins.
I'm at a total loss for why some of you are posting coins that are NOT 1981 as that's what @Jeepfreak81 is talking about. Please correct me if I am wrong.
@Jeepfreak81, are you looking to buy a certain grade of coin, or just having a representation of that countries coin for the year 1981? If grade, and/or condition, isn't important, I will be happy to send you any I come across as I go through the world coins that I have (I'm still not done with the 12 pounds I have), so just PM me your address and I'll gladly send them to you as a gift. And . . . I would be willing to bet others here would do the same. Might not be as much fun as the "hunt" for you, but I would bet you would get some nice coins.
Pardon me, but it is not Ivan V. I can read this old slavonic caption: (ЦАР)Ь ВЕ(Л)ИКИ(Й) КНЯ(ЗЬ) МИХАИЛО (ФЁ)ДОРОВИ(Ч) ВСЕЯ. TSAR GREAT PRINCE MIHAIL FEDOROVICH WHOLE OF (RUSSIA).
Thank you very much/ Siberian Man Now I can change my data label to correct Tsar. I love the "wire money" coinage. John
Really no sovereign coinage is "rare" from 1981. Unlike coins from Kingdom of Siberia which was posted by Siberian Man....are rare. You have a wealth of knowledge, and a vast coin collection All of your valuable info will go onto my new coin label.
the original statement "collecting a set of at least 1 coin from every issuing Country and/or Territory for my birth year of 1981." there will be some that are quite difficult. like was said Siberia doesn't get much out of there, Cuba would be another one. And not all countries produce their own coins either, Like New Zealand uses a couple mints around the world to produce theirs. "issuing country" might be quite a task, they all have some sort of coin. I think the number is 193 plus vatican city and palestine... 195 ish that are U.S. recognized to some extent, while theres like 251 countries UN recognized. and heck there's probably even more than that. there's 254 recognized flags lets say.... As the saying goes it's your baby, you can raise it any way you want to. Heres a list of mints around the world. it's a starting point. there's like 100 mints worldwide, some come into being after 1981, so maybe 90 if you wanted to do an example of a coin struck at every mint in the world in 1981 set. it's still a daunting task though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mints
Oh, thanks for the info. I'm less concerned with where they are minted in regards to the collection I'm building, however it's good info to have about the coin if I know it. I think I only turned up about 138 that had coins released in 1981. I used Numista and Krause catalog. Of course they may not be complete and I also may have missed some. So my list may grow accordingly with additional research. So far those have been the 2 sources to guide my endeavor, or at least to get the ball rolling. One thing I decided was it had to actually be MINTED for 1981, not just in service that year. So like I found alot of countries that had coins minted for 1980 then not again til say 83. Those don't get a home in this collection. I'm still working out some of the details and it's a living project as I learn more about world coins, currently my knowledge is limited.
Well you certainly have the right reference material if using Krause following up with Numista to cross againstin case something was missed. That's good that you have a direction to accomplish the goal, that's half the battle right there. maybe once you get it nailed down to those 138, then expand to an example from each mint for the year? just a thought. I wish you the best of luck, it sounds like it will be challenging but the knowledge you gain and the sense of accomplishment at the end should be quite rewarding.
Ya I intend to expand it as I go, keep it fun, interesting, and challenging. I'm a glutton for knowledge as well so like you say the knowledge gained in the process is part of the prize.

Hey. Try that coin uno thread. All those members show world coins all the time. You see a country coins name that’s on your list of 1981 countries that date. Then ask who posted it, what’s up. Or Cointalk Lord @lordmarcovan might be a couple tons of help. I see his name started the Coin Uno thread. These members will never be accused of lack of help. Good luck
