Damaged, that's the impression of reeding marks from another coin after the edge made contact with yours, still a quarter.

Correct.. Incused marks is a hard hit from another reeded edge. It's usually 2 or 3 marks.

There's no reason for the US Mint to mark 3 D"s on a coin and it not a mint error of any kind.

I never knew that 2 coins could strike with such force that an impression, so distinct, could be left on 1 coin. I wonder what the second coin looks like. I learn something new from the gentlemen on this site every day. One never knows what you don't know, when you don' know!!

@Martinjb …go to doubleddie.com and read all sections there. It will help you immensely to learn how dies are made and the minting process.

The Mint does Bag a lot of coins and if the bag is dropped the forces exerted do this type of damage often.

I viewed it from multiple angles and it still looks like they are struck in and not dents in the coin I now have a microscope camera and would be willing to show you some additional pictures please message me back

Go ahead and post them here. Nothing's gonna change what it is though. I've literally seen 1000's of coins with these coins through the years. They are refered to as "bag marks". There's absolutely no way possible for there to be 3 D's on your coin.

Also I think you still don't understand how mint marks are applied. The mint mark is added to the die, not the planchette.

You are also correct in one aspect. They aren't dents. The reeding actually penitrated the surface of the coin.
