Just found this 1941s nickel a few minutes ago. I gotta clean off the green spots but
    have to say it's a nice find. It's 81 years old! That's 11 years older than I am...So, guess
I need to give this coin some respect.... Wed Feb 16 16-25-27.jpg Wed Feb 16 16-26-57.jpg Wed Feb 16 16-27-21.jpg

This coin is certainly not in good shape, but still, it is a old coin.

It is a small S variety. But the large S variety is readily discernable and available in the wild. Of course, not as common but detectable even in worn states. And worth about 10x the small S variety, so certainly worth holding onto and making a roll of them if you can.

    That sounds familiar.
Oh, yeh, it's my birth year!

    Here's my 1941-S nickel:
Is it a large or small "S"?
I was not aware of the variety.

Good question. I'm thinking it might depend a bit on the particular coin. The large S carries a higher premium, especially in AU/lower MS coins (15-25X), but oddly enough, less so in higher MS coins (maybe 6X). Steps are extenuating factor on MS coins...so perhaps in the higher MS ranges, FS is more important. Lower MS, FS and large S might be comparable. Of course...deeper research on this speculation of mine would be needed to bear this out.

PS - looking at Cherrypicker's...the Inverted small S has a nice return (maybe up to 10X). So keep an eye out for that one.
