Think I have a rival searcher, for the past 3 runs I've been noticing the same(marked)rolls.I find nothing but junk in them.Today the bank had 300 in dimes-crap,20 in nickels-new crap!!!,one roll of quarters-nothing special,20 in cents-a few wheaties meh.I am really disappointed was expecting to find at least 3 silvers.300 in dimes I would rather have that amount in quarters or nickels for sure. Also since I didn't go at all last week hopefully this week won't be a bust, not looking good.

Stopped at a local bank where I'm not a member, but they will sell me coins from their tills. They had one Ike, good condition, 1977D, so I took it home to check. Hard to find Ikes anywhere nowadays, but amazingly, it filled a hole! For circulation mintages, only have 77P & 78P left to fill.
Doing much less with coins now, which had helped fill a void after my wife died. Now, 21 months later, I and a wonderful lady (with a capital "L" and preceded by the word "Classy") are deeply in love. My wife and I had known and admired her for years, and we're both convinced that my wife, after her passing, had something to do with this.

Noticed this thin 67 sandwiched In a roll. Threw it on the scale right away. Weighted 1.8g. Then I flipped it over. 20220207_131749.jpg 20220207_131800.jpg

Not a roll find, but I was in another part of town today and stopped by a branch of. My bank I have never been to, and the teller had 3 halves and 9 Ikes! No silver, but I love getting Ikes in the wild!

Of the 4 states in which I've searched halves I rate Florida second place, so Florida is pretty good in my book.

I guess not in my area, the banks don't want to have any business with odd denominations.

So tell them that whenever customers bring in three-cent pieces or $3 gold you'll be happy to take them off their hands. ;)

Just finished searching my first two boxes of half dollars. The results were pretty disappointing (I was prepared, but I would have been happy with at least one silver). Only notable coins were a 1977 proof and 7 NIFCs. Below are the results (I spent a few coins before I got home and went through everything, so I will be short a few dollars):

    • 1972: 229
    • 1973: 109

Not a total waste, though, because I will be using some of the nicer ones to fill dates in my albums :)

Oh, and TONS of hunters' marks! Do you guys mark any of your searches? I mean, there must have been at least 50-100 marked coins! :depressed:

I just opened a new account today so I can start dumping my halves :nailbiting: And I am NOT looking forward to annoying them with my dumps! But, oh well

@noahhutch01 it's not all about silver.

always look at the reverse of each coin and determine whether or not the designer initials "FG" are there. If not, then you found a variety worth a few bucks.

keep an eye out for die cracks and other oddities.

I am certain others here have more recommendations for what to look for as you search half dollars. There are quite a few varieties.

FYI I've searched a total of about 200 boxes in 4 different states and I average 1 silver coin per box, so if silver is your goal, then be patient and keep searching.

Never have and there is genuinely no point to it.
The coins are returned to the coin vendors like Loomis and get mixed with other coins in small part or in large part and then often returned to the same bank branch.

So all a marked coin would tell you is that you have seen that marked coin before lol.

Also, I just consider it rude. Don't do it, for my sake. Please :joyful:
Don't be whomever these people are in the Denver area...o_O

I did not know that about the initials. I know there are so many die errors but many of them require more effort to find and I don't have the patience

I think I'm going to start ordering quarters, as there are many more designs to search through without getting bored of seeing the same two reverses.

Teller had $11.50 in halves in her drawer and “a grimy $2.”

Bought them all happily! A 90%er and a 70 year old bill, I’ll take it!

Seriously? You got a 1928-series $2 bill from a teller? Cool!

(stops and thinks about the current date)

    Crud. :oldman: :sorry:
