I spotted this at the Lakeland, Florida collectors' show a couple of days ago. It is a York Maine commemorative half dollar with the original package. This IS NOT the coin that came in the package. If it were, it would have what is known in the trade as "tab toning." Here's the package and the coin. This Delaware commemorative shows some tab toning. Tab toning can be attractive, and it can be absolutely ugly. A few people who collect commemorative coins can't seem to tell the difference. And is a cover of issue for the Delaware commemorative. Once again, the coin above IS NOT the coin that was housed in this folder.
Interesting. I wasn't aware the commemorative was originally sold with a holder like this. Thanks for the post.
Is it really that bad? For sure, I've seen plenty of these York commem. coins in the little folders. Some were left alone for too long and became quite ugly.
