I didn’t take a photo of the slab but IGS says this blank cent planchet is a MS-70. After I finished laughing I took these photos.

So... how do you assign a "strike quality" grade component to an unstruck planchet?

That is what I’d like to know.

It looks like it is in "Mint State" in regard to the stage of process it is in.

Yup but not even close to a 70. :)

You don't...completely ludicrous...has to be either a joke or I've lost any/all credibility in IGS (which I had none, anyway...heck, never even heard of them until the other day here on CT...now several times).

Blank planchets are kind of tough to grade when you have so many grading numbers. Still, I agree. It's not an MS-70.

I don't think the current surface is relevant to the finish surface. After you put a die on that with high pressure the surface will definitely change. How much, I am not sure of. So, in order to grade this blank, you need to understand the design acceptance criteria of the blanks. Just my opinion as I am not aware of the actual parameters.

Haha, probably all the ones I posted. I was able to buy a small hoard of them for an extremely low price. IGS is a basement grader.

Buy the blank, not the slab. LOL

Yeah, I think they have to give it a 70 cause it wouldn't make any sense to grade it any lower as there's nothing to grade. :D

It's a good buy if you only paid a couple of bucks for it.
