Here is another image of the coin in different lighting... @jtlee321 The green spot is definitely real, not just an effect of the lighting. I'm thinking I should crack it out and give it an acetone bath, as I don't care about the slab one way or another. What do you guys think?
Good call I didn't see that green stuff before my second cup of coffee, it's definitely there and worth the crack out IMO to clean it.
I was debating 63 vs 58 (wear on the reverse); I figured Anacs would be conservative and might see wear; I ended up guessing 58. The 62 grade is a bit odd since that is usually reserved for a lower end UNC (a little too beat up or lacking luster-neither of which seem to be the case here). A 62 can also be given for a technically high AU that was market graded into the UNC level.
You can't make the coin any worse by carefully conserving it in acetone. Over time that PVC will harm the coin if you don't do anything about it. Just be careful in freeing it from the plastic.
Thank you. I've freed many an ancient coin from slabs as we ancients collectors don't go much for that sort of thing. Also, some years ago I recruited a bunch of coins that had PVC deposits from junk bins, in order to practice conserving them. This Indian rupee was the worst case. It looked like it had moss growing on it. The Walker will be a piece of cake. Before and after...
I know my guess is late but I had it at 63. Chatter by the sun and on the right open field behind liberty and soft strike on the eagle leg on the reverse. Nice coin. I'm putting together my first set and just cracked an anacs coin out. I should post pics put don't want to hijack the thread.
Here’s my recent pickups for my album. I’ll dig it out tomorrow. I need to take some better photos for sure
Again, not to hijack the thread so put me in my place if I am over the line @John Anthony , but @Tater , those are some nice Walkers. I do like the color difference between them. Like my post mentioned, I am fairly new to them and just curious if you are working for a certain grade, short or whole set?
its evolving. I’m just trying to get coins that I like. I want to do a full set but I’m worried the short set will all be 63-65 coins and the front page g-xf and it may not look good. I think most collectors will get it but someone that just picks the dansco up to take a peak will not. Why’s this 21-D look so bad?
What about doing the short set in high grades, then adding just a 1916 d or s, so that you have an example of the one-year obverse mint-mark, and throwing in a proof for good measure? I've seen the proofs at shows and some of them are pretty dazzling - if they've been well preserved. I like the blank Dansco albums - you can fill them up any which way you want and there are no holes!
I've been thinking about including a proof in one of the extra holes and also one of the .9999 gold commem.
