My good friend called me and said a friend of his was selling his coin collection. He was thinking of sending them to a auction house but was looking for other outlets to sell. We went over to check the collection. ‘During the visit he tells us that most of his coins will be heading to auction. I ask about the album of Large Cents and he hands them to me. I look though the album and find a 1794 and several draped busts. There was 37 coins and the Dansco album. I asked what he thought they were worth and I said I will give you that amount. So I now the proud owner of another Large Cent album. I will attach some of the coins, they date from 1794 to 1857.

Thanks! It’s almost impossible to find large cents still in the album. Most sets are broken up and sold individually. This makes my 17th Large Cent album, now I really need to fill this one up.
Very nice pickup the LC albums very hard to come by (and usualy with a $100+ price tag) I've got one myself and had a dealer at a show offer me $200 for the empty album... Some very nice coins there as well

I have toyed with idea of a large cent date set, but the 1799 and 1804 really bring me up short. Those coins are really expensive now, even with significant problems. I would also have to lower my grade expectations for the early dates. I have the 1793 Chain and Wreath Cents from my type set plus the 1794, ‘95 and ‘98 cents. I have thought about taking the collection in smaller bites, like all of the dates from a given decade, like the 1850s, '40s and '30s.
The classic heads have decent detail but all have corrosion problems which are normal. The 1809 is my favorite.
I don’t think I could start building a complete LC set today. The cost of the key dates in any shape are out of my price range. Years ago I managed to complete 4 sets but my remaining sets will be without them. My focus today is die varieties of the 1794’s.
You've chosen an extremely fascinating but *VERY* hotly-contested series. There are over 60 die varieties of 1794 cents, with only the crummiest ones priced below a C-note. The best of the best of these are all well over $100K each.
Well you don’t have to worry about me buying the $100,000 coins. I’m more of a C-note person LOL. The 94’s are fascinating to me but I still buy all large cents when the opportunity arises.
I hear you. I absolutely love old coppers but the prices for problem free ones makes them unattainable for my collecting budget.
Just completed my 4-year project of filling (almost) my LC album last month. Had to use fillers for 1793-1799-1804 as they are just way out of my price range! Tried to get the best possible on most dates; so I am happy with the results. Haven’t figured out the total worth yet; just been working on these beauties one at a time; pictured are the obverse sides in my book so you can kind of get an idea of what I have…

Here are 3 more from the set. This set is missing most of the late 1820’s to middle 1840’s. Most are at least AG-3 or better. The latter 1850’s are nice.
