Duh Again as I know not what I speake.... I just post .......... @ Norcal For a key coin of the series no its a nice specimen, and nice find for your 7070 set. I purchased one last year in vf 20 that I sold for a nice premium at a show. These are like hens teeth in better grades. Good choice for your set it will only increase in value. mintage 406,034 There's also a variety on this date and mm .
my 2021 red book shows 489,034 mintage. Not that 83,000 would make it more Populus. Still very nice dime.
You know getting into die marriages and such one oftens finds out the old mint records were all over the place. One year they can tell you strikes, proof strikes, number of both obv and rev. Dies used...the next no records kept! And very seldom seen is if they melted any after minting. And yes corrected as I got my first number off a web site ... so yes one much recheck your source. The survival rate on this coin is low also, that also accounts for it being a key coin. Hinde sight the vf 20 I had was a very nice coin perfect grey color and wear....I made $ but wish at times I had not let it go...not going to find another like it.
I went to check on the variety as I had forgotten about it to be honest. Anyway PCGS has the 1838 o mintage at 406,034 ???? And the variety is an large O which the op specimen looks to be. Ok mintage in red book is incorrect.
A nice example of a tough coin. Here is my example. Net graded but OK. And an over mint mark to boot.
The shop that I went to had picked up a collection of early seated dimes and half dimes. No 38 o but they did have a 40 o.
Thanks they are very rare.... but I got lucky tonight on something else. I collect elongated coins too! I love the vintage ones....on IHC as a host coin. Ron Pope and I were good friends, he was the #1 go to guy on buffalos...as well many other series. Well I had the 1901 elongated cent from the Buffalo expo Buffalo Ny. See image...I wanted to give Ron something I knew he like....Ron liked anything Buffalo....Ron passed just before the holidays last year. I finally was able to find another one.
Thank you, seated dimes are not my thing but I liked the look of this one. I see why they added stars. In my opinion, a very bland looking design.
Nice example for the type set. Here is my not-so-nice example in my type set (of course I had to have one from New Orleans)...
They are so roached out majority of them are detailed and in a bad way...not something one could live with.
Exactly right. That is why I was happyto get these two. The raw example was a nice surprise since it is still better than what is usually seen in spite of the obvious defects.
