Hello, I am hoping to hear from a lot of the World Coins Forum participants and see who specializes in what countries, if you do specialize. (This may have been done but I haven't seen it thru searches). Whether we collect the same countries or not, we could possibly help each other in our searches. It may be tough to keep it to 5 but maybe just think of the top 5 countries you search out first when you're at a coin show. For me I'm focusing on (not in any order)- Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, UK, Morocco What are yours?
In terms of world coins I mostly just collect Canadians, but if I see something I like I'll pick it up. I really like this one, even though it's value is purely intrinsic rather than numismatic.
I would be Thailand, Mexico, Burma. Anything past that and it would be a complete tossup and I literally have no idea what it would be. This is a separate list from ancients, US, and Chinese collections.
Ancients: Mexico: Japan: US: Random other interesting coins- I don't like to box myself in with what I collect:
I mainly collect foreign silver in general, not specific to country but here are probably my top 5. Canada Germany Mexico United Kingdom China
You know what would be fun? If everyone posted their favorite coin from each of their top 5 countries/categories.
Japan Canada Peru Great Britain Poland I cannot say I specialize in any, but these are my five top searched countries excepting the United States…
Great idea. Here are mine-- UK is the 1818 Crown, silver and love St George on the reverse Brazil 960 Reis 1810s-20s Cuba-early pesos Morocco-the 5 or 10 silver Dirhams Costa Rica- 1840s 1/2 or 1 real (Sorry bad with pics)
I collect AV coinage from 650BC to present day. I have coins from 500+ sovereign nations. I am not fussy about Chinese coins My favs are ancients/ medieval/ baroque era coins. Here are a few samples.....
U.S. of course... Canada/UK Mexico/central ,south America I like coins from Danzig I do have a Cuban note collection.
U.S. Germany - states, empire, republic, modern Great Britain including Commonwealth of Nations/Territories/Dependencies Wales Canada All connected to genealogy of ancestors.
German States, and then any silver coin in a junk bin, followed by unique copper coins in a junk bin, followed by hard to find countries like North Korea in a junk bin.
