Went out Sunday afternoon to pick up some household cleaning products and passed by a drink machine. Naturally, I dug into the return slot & low and behold, came up with 2 keepers.
Small change means nothing today. There was a dime on the driveway at the dealership when I was talking to the service reps. I pointed it out to them and they both ignored it. I picked it up. When I was a kid you could get half a gallon of gas for a dime.
I have trained my kids well. We had to go to the mall yesterday (yuck). FFIVN found a quarter, 2 times, and 4 cents. My daughter found a dime and 2 cents. I will never not stop for free money.
When I was working crazy long hours, I would hit the soda machine where I worked pretty hard come Thursday and Friday. They had a change machine that took $5 bills, so I'd get change instead of feeding dollars into the soda machine. I'd scan that, then buy a drink calculating the best way to make the most change. And I'd scan that. I found a fair amount of collectibles that way...always nice to hear silver rattling in the change slot!!
Well done, @Inspector43. Well done. Pointed out a LSC in the hallway at the dorm yesterday, but hands were full. The kids wouldn't pick it up: it was tails!!
My last trip to town, I was coming out of a market and watched an older lady bend down and pick up a penny and then had a big smile one her face. I asked her if she now had good lucky, and she replied that she did. Not many remember about; "find a penny on the ground, if it's heads up, it will bring you good luck." "Some people believe that different outcomes will occur if the penny is found either heads up or down. If the penny is heads up you may freely and joyfully pick it up, and experience good luck. If the penny faces tails up, you can pick it up and turn it over for the next person ? just do not take it with you because you will be bringing yourself bad luck. Some believe that the penny you pick up should be passed along to someone else the same day to ensure your own good luck." From https://psychiclibrary.com/penny-superstition/
I should have told the kids to flip it over but it was the last run to load the truck. And off we went. Curious math fact: If it takes 3 seconds to pick up a cent and put it in your pocket (of course, after quickly scanning the date), you can pick up 20 cents in a minute or 1200 cents an hour (over a lifetime), you get paid $12 an hour to exercise. Now if it's a nickel or a dime...health is wealth after all.
I was just at home Depot last week and someone left a little over fifty cents in change in the self checkout. I pointed it out to the cashier assisting me and she said, go ahead and take it or it'll sit there all day. I've never understood leaving money behind!
Nice find! I check the Coinstar and Soda machines anytime I pass them and I did post my recent find of a Quarter missing clad on one side here recently. Free coins is good!
I found a penny and a nickel at work Saturday. The penny was in the parking lot and the nickel on the floor inside. The nickel was in a high traffic area, and when I first saw it (it was very obvious) I had my hands full and couldn't stop to pick it up. 45 minutes later it was still there, so I snagged it.
Your on the right track. Children need to understand in some way the value of a dollar. It doesn’t get any easier as the years pass by. Just keep communication open and do the best you can. I like your family touch. Your a proud dad
