Evertime I get to wanting or I buy a coin from Germany that has "Hitler" on it I get that sick kind of feeling and then don't really want it or just sell it off. I keep thinking, (each time before I get one) that I need just one nice BU example for my world type set and then end up not really wanting the durn thing.
Has anyone else on CoinTalk ever experience the same thing???

There are no coins with Hitler on them. Some medals yes, but no coins made.

Since I don't buy tokens or medals, I've never been faced with the question of whether to buy something with an image of Hitler. He was never depicted on any Third Reich coins, which do, of course, show the swastika. But, in other cultures and other times, the swastika is a symbol of good luck.

Why put Hitler in quotes? Just curious. An evil man, yes, but that was his name, after all.

I meant the "swastica" ot "third reich"

I do this something wrong evertime when posting a pole no matter how much a try and "proof read" it.

What I meant was a coin depicting "The Third Reich" or a "Swastica"!

Remember the people that had to live through those incredibly trying times.
Honor them for their sacrifice that kept our Country from being taken over by the German and Japanese Military.
NEVER FORGET the things that led up to these evil people being allowed to gain power in their countries.
So that it never happens again.

It doesn't bother me personally. I collect coins from WWII nations and that includes Nazi Germany. I actually have a small collection of BU third reich coins and I am hoping to expand it more. It means in no way that I support their message and to me it's about having something tangible about history which helps me better understand the events. If we don't learn history we are doomed to repeat it.

Guess the quotation marks were used because there are no coins that actually depict Hitler, but quite a few that sure are different from the earlier and later German coinage. Swastika, Fraktur font, ghetto coins and such comes to mind. Ah well, seems that the topic comes up every couple of weeks here:
http://www.cointalk.com/search.php?searchid=1945891 And replying to the initial question, or voting, does not make much sense for me, as I have nazi coins in my collections just as I have Weimar and Allied Occupation coins, and even earlier and later pieces. So it would be odd to leave nazi coinage out, but I do not specifically collect it either.

I mean if you eliminate all WWII Third Reich coins, there are quite a few others that should be eliminated.

I just wanted to know if anyone else had that "ick" feeling regarding coins depicting the third reich as they collect them, look at them or keep them.
I have never ever heard this topic (regarding feelings you may or may not get or have) here on CoinTalk. All my thinking was that if I do some others may also and it would open up possibly a new slant on this, that is all I was attempting. How do you feel, not what you think or know.

One more thing, people on CoinTalk are very wise and I am often very careless in my wording esp. when it come to polls. You can bet next time I do one (and I will) it will be proofed within in an inch of it's life cause you guys are very sharp. Also around here we just like to "get to the meat of thing" much more quickly sometimes without a lot of sorting out.
In East Tenn. people favor the end results more than the hemming and hawing around, often that is good and it's our nature but sometimes in other things it is not.

Sorry, seems that the Search Results link does not work as I expected it to work. So much for me being smart, duh. :D This is one of the topics I had in mind; was not a poll though: http://www.cointalk.com/t64603/ And if you do a forum search for "swastika" for example, you will find many more.

As for why I did not vote, I am in Germany and simply collect coins from around here. While I focus on coins from my country (Federal Republic) and on euro coinage, I also have a few older pieces, including nazi coins. But while the nazi regime cannot be viewed "neutrally" of course, I try and do that with their coinage: They are in my collection, as I wrote, just as some pieces issued earlier and later.

So the first option ("I don't mind collecting coins ...") comes closest to my view. But I would not feel at home in that "camp" either. If others have different views, fine with me; I certainly don't want to keep anybody from voting. :)

Think I saw this same subject somewhere. And as I said there, here is my thoughts. If anyone gets any kind of weird, sorry, funny, sticky, strange feelings due to a countries past war records, then such people should not collect any coins at all. For example there is that USA North and South War, remember. So that now leaves out all US coins. Then there was that Alamo thing so now you can't collect Mexican coins either. Naturally those japan people did that Pearl Harbor thing so now you can't collect Japanese coins either. Remember that Napoleon guy. Now no more French coins too. And that Alexander the great guy really makes it so I can't collect Greek coins.
If you really hate Hitler, look into a guy named Dracul. Present day interpretation is Dracula, based on the history of one of the bloodiest rulers of Transavania. No more Hungary coins for us now either.
Now really bad is those lousy Martians after what I saw on War of the Worlds. No more Martian money for me.
I'm not sure but I'll just have to stick to cave men's coins. No one has a record of their wars. :rolling:;)

I enjoy holding coins from all over the world and when I hold and look at third reich coins I think of how sharp they appear and the feeling their government must have wanted their peoples of the time to feel. How big their ego's must of been to take on so many people at once and the sober reality that no matter how big or motivated a group thinks they are they can be crushed!
