is a strong struck 1982 quarter of any value?i got one my coin dealer said it might be worth 50 cents lol just wondering?:mouth:
well struck uncirculated 1982 and 1983 quarters seem to be quite desirable for those who are putting together modern clad quarter sets since there were no US Mint sets either of these two years. AU and lesser examples are a dime a dozen however, so judge your coin accordingly.
View attachment untitled.bmp im posting a pic now also the tops of liberty by the rim seem to be doubled or really stamped thick on the tops only?
o its circulated for sure.i just heard that most 1982 quarters are poorly stamped due to die problems that year.also mine has strange thick doubling at the top of the liberty on all the letters.
your original post was about: My dealers says it's worth 50¢, what do you think? is aid that the coin might carry a premium if uncirculated. It's not, so no premium.
I was looking through some change earlier this afternoon, and came across a 1982, and 1970 Quarter that both looked exceptionally well. Like you said Jesse P, I recall reading that the quarters struck in 1982 were poorly struck. I can't remember the reason though. Maybe crummy dies, poor quality control? Any way I thought it was cool to see a thread about the same coin I was thinking about earlier in the day. Here's a pic of the one I pulled out of change. Also a pic of the 1970.
That's remarkable quality on these two; especially the '70-D. It's probably the result of breaking up a mint set but I've seen quite a few real nice quarters recently and some of them can't be from mint sets. A lot of beginners are releasing coins they've found since 1999. The '82 dies weren't swapped outy as often as they should be. It might have been a cost cutting measure but they were overused more than most dies of that era. But each die was new at one time and most made a few nice coins before becoming worn. What's rare about the well made ones is for them to have been saved in unc. Few coins were saved and most are from overused dies.
Cladking - Thank you for the knowledge, and complements! Jesse_P Sorry... Hijacking your thread was not my intentions. So, I apologise.
agreed, King. No Mint sets, so the only supply of uncs is original bags which are much less common than Mint Sets (where a large percentage of clad unc sets have been put together from).
o no my man lol im a happy guy i love talking coins!!!any body can join on anything i post.im learning and any help is wonderful.everybody here is wonderful.
Wow, gixxxer, that is a nicely struck 1982 quarter. I judge quarters based on the lettering being complete around the edges and the amount of wrinkles of hair on Washington's head. The details of hair on the 1982 is nice.
