All the talk about 1921 Peace Dollars

With all the talk of cleaned, whizzed, and polished 1921 Peace Dollars, here is my nicest of 4 1921 Peace Dollars that I own. It is a PCGS MS 62 CAC, in an OGH. As can be noted, it has a fair number of contact marks, but is not scrubbed or buffed. It was probably lightly dipped many years ago, and retoned, with light golden toning. The surfaces, despite showing bagmarks, are not altered.

Here are some old cell phone pics of mine. I bought it raw, feeling it was a decent MS62.
On submission, NGC called it a 61.
I'm happy with it though, I think it has original skin.

 

It has a beautiful reverse patina. Lovely coin. Solidly MS. Hard to differentiate on a toned coin like that between 61-63. To me it as nicely MS.

I don’t have any photos but I do have a 1921 Peace Dollar graded as a MS-64 by PCGS. That’s a nice looking 62.

 

It is an OGH, and I think slightly under graded. I would have gone 63 with it, but I am happy with the coin the way it is.

 

It is nice looking and I agree with a 63.

 

For some reason I always get a suspicious or gnawing feeling in my stomach re "blast white" Peace Dollars.

longshot your 1921 has almost the exact flat, original battle-ship gray patina of the 1928 given to me by my Depression-era and WVA coal mining grandparents when I was a kid. They save ONE coin in their dirt-poor life...the year remembrance one of my would-have-been uncle's death from cancer at a young age...and gave it to me in the '80s.

I purchased a 1921 last year to complete my small key-date Peace Dollar set, a coin showing decent hints of original luster under some relatively even toning...but emotionally doesn't compare to a coin that has been uncleaned and possesses the original (within limits) skin as nature intended.

 

As a a kid, I always dreamed of owning one but never thought I'd be able to afford one. Here's mine.......

Is that coin graded, or raw? I have questions if the obverse had a bit of help in the fields. Just curious, as most 1921 Peace Dollars that have not yet found their way into a slab have been cleaned or polished.

I used to play dollar slot machines back in the days when real silver dollars were used. Can't believe that I might have "spent" some expensive, by today's standards, coins. LOL

 

Does anyone remember when Yahoo had an auction site to compete with eBay? I won a auction for $37 plus shipping on Yahoo Auction Germany in 1998 for my 1921 Peace Dollar. There were only three bids. There was no PayPal or credit payments and a check mailed from the USA had a $50 cashing charge so before I bid on European auctions I asked the sellers if they would accept cash in US dollars. The US dollar was good as gold at that time and freely accepted at the banks.

 

I've got three of them; a rattler slabbed MS64 that I've owned for 30ish years (it would probably upgrade under todays standards), a hammered raw ~ MS62 and a raw high AU one.

The MS62, even though it has more dings in it than the slabbed one, is probably my favorite because it is one of the relatively few 1921's that are well struck, so the design shows up well. There are also some interesting clash marks on the reverse.

 

Yep I remember that Yahoo auction site. Bought a few things there. Some of the sellers weren't very good. Slow to respond to emails and shipping things out.

 

It's raw, but doesn't appear messed with to my eyes.
