Hi Everyone, I hope all is well! I found out yesterday that my brother in law tested positive for Covid and he had driven my nephew and I to my sister's home on Thursday night where I stayed the night. So, I'm isolating for 10 days. Truth be told, I'm scared. I have all my shots, including the booster, but, I'm still full of anxiety because that's my nature. :/ I kind of wish I could at least borrow my cat, Bear, back from my parents for the next two weeks because it's going to be lonely, but, there's a no pet rule in my apartment building. Such is the 2022 lifestyle, I guess. Anyway, onto the reason why we're here - coins! My brother and I have started the year out with a bang! A number of years ago, I had two fire bellied toads. They were hilarious. I taught them to accept food from my hand and they went nuts for crickets. I didn't have enough space in my room, so, my brother offered to rent them some space in his room as long as he could name them. Both my brother and I have incredibly immature senses of humour and it was clear that this was a male and female pair as I would find globs of dried eggs every now and then. I won't give both names because together they are inappropriate, but, one was named 'Ben.' He never admitted it, but, I think my brother became fond of those little frogs even though they would sometimes wake him with their croaking in the night. At the end of December, he found a coin that really stood out to him. It's an AE Cast Unica with a frog on it. @Alegandron has one very similar and helped my bro make the decision to snap it up. It's a fun little coin! I also started the year off with a couple of new coins. Herod Antipas coins have always been close to the top of my wish list, but, their prices were a bit too much for me. I got a message from someone selling some beaten up Antipas coins and asked if I was interest. Of course I was! So, for a fraction of what they normally are, I introduce you to Hendin 1203 and 1216! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited! Feel free to post anything IRRELEVANT. I like randomness. You guys are the best! Stay safe out there! Erin
I'm inferring that you're young, so I'm sure you'll be just fine. I started my hobbies pretty young too. Well, you could use the 10 days to do some kind of research or project.
...ah well, you should be alright, other than 10 days private time Erin, and WOW, a frog coin! ...all nice coins, but the frog's my fav...
Great that you purchased it Erin! I really like it! Enjoy you time to yourself. Luceria AES Grave Anonymous 217-215 BCE Uncia 7.35g Frog from above- Corn Ear pellet retrograde L Thurlow & Vecchi 285 Ex: Stephen Album Auction
Nice coins. Money well spent. How bout a close up of the new arrivals? Let's see the two toads/frogs. i'm sure they'd like the attention!
The latest CDC guidance says you don't need to quarantine if you're vaccinated and don't have any symptoms: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html Is Ben's buddy called Dover ?
Heliodromus; I was wondering myself about the 10 days thing, and it looks like Erin is in Canada. I don't know if you've had chicken pox before, Erin, but that was way more miserable for me than you-know-what, which I haven't knowingly had. Everyone's different, but it sounds like you'll be a-ok. When I'm stressed out, the best thing for me is to stay really busy. Find something you really like to do, or like to study, and put your all into that. When I was in your age range (late Bush years-Clinton years), I was into old time radio (still am), coins (ditto), trains (no), collecting 1920s-40s Hardy boy bookss, ship disasters (marginally), etc.
How's this for irrelevant? Liang/Wei round coin, c. 300 BCE, Hartill 6.3 Those look like a nice pair of Herods, congrats! Is that Robert K's writing? If so I'm glad he's supporting your collection. I'm sure you will escape COVID unscathed!
Sorry to hear you're in quarantine, but I'm confident everything will work out just fine. Fortunately, you've got not one, but two great Herod coins to keep you warm in the next 10 days. Here's a wildly irrelevant coin. Wrong time, wrong place, wrong metal. Perfect. ps. hope your brother is all-right as well.
Thanks so much, everyone. @nerosmyfavorite68 - I'm 38 years old and in pretty good health, although, I can definitely stand to lose some weight. Thankfully, because of my volunteer work, I walk about 45 mins each day when not in quarantine. I'm feeling a bit icky today, so, we'll see how this goes. @Heliodromus - I do live in Ontario, Canada. I talked to the Executive Director of the food bank and he agrees that 10 days works best because there are a lot of seniors who volunteer there. Unfortunately, there's no replacement to walk the dog of an elderly lady I've been helping out for a couple of months and she's a bit too frail to go out herself as she would have to deal with steep stairs, the cold and icy sidewalks. Pearl, the dog, is house trained to use pads, so, that's one plus. My sister and nephew tested negative yesterday, but, they have no more tests and won't have access to any until closer to the end of the 10 days. @seth77 - unfortunately, it was the only apartment I could afford. I hate being away from them. I'm hoping my mom will try and feed my reptiles while I'm stuck. I'll try and take better pics of my coins, but, the frog coin is my brother's and I won't be seeing him for 10 days. :/ I'll hang out with the coins and you guys, watch some true crime and funny TikToks and just chill. Have a great day all! Erin
I know how you feel. I'm dealing with some negative reactions. My daughter and I have home physical therapy for an hour 7 days a week. It keeps me going. The family is praying that you get back at it very soon.
Quarantine sucks ! My son got Covid three weeks ago, and my daughter+partner and grand-daughter got it two weeks ago, even though all the adults had got their three shots. They've been affected very smoothly, and the little one didn't even notice anything wrong. You will go through it easily is my guess Erin Take care ! Q Our Lady Liberty (Marianne)
Erin, Greetings from Churchville, NY . I share your feelings about confinement, we had 13 more inches of snow drop on our small village Friday & Saturday . I wasn't aware of your fondness for amphibians, so my friend Liz (the Agama lizard) sends you greetings too . Last year I noticed a finely crafted glass paperweight in a H L Selman Ltd auction, left a pre-sale bid, & much to my surprise won it . The paperweight was made by Ken Rosenfeld, an internationally known glass artist & features an Agama lizard trapped in glass with only a few desert flowers to nibble on. It measures 3 inches in diameter.
Hey Everyone, Hope all is well! Just a quick update - I tested positive for Covid yesterday. Other than a slight fever on Monday night and a weird feeling in the back of my throat, I'm doing fine. @Heliodromus - you are correct about Ben's partner's name. lol @Al Kowsky that is a beautiful paperweight! Liz is very pretty! My 21 year old golden gecko finally ate today after an almost three month fast thanks to my mom giving him his favourite treat. Here are some more pics of my Antipas coins.
