Just got one of the new 2022 design quarters in change yesterday. Might be a stupid question, but did they change the weight? It feels like a piece of play money. I held a 5 year old quarter, and yeah, it feels heavier. Might just be me, and I know, weigh it, just wondering if they did make a weight change. I will weigh it tonight.
I hadn't heard anything about a weight change. Seems the vending machine industry would be up in arms if they did change it. I'll look forward to seeing what you post tonight.
I understand they process the coins with helium, so it might effect the feel of the weight. Sorry, I just couldn't resist. I believe Randy is correct as the weight affects its use in machines.
Maybe you found a rolled thin 2022 quarter? Just a guess, but yeah, I would weigh it as well to make sure.
Here is mine: Both I got weigh the same. A regular qtr I weigh with the scale is around the 5.7 mark.
That's odd. They're supposed to weigh 5.67 grams with a tolerance of ± 0.227 grams, so it's still acceptable. Check this: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/quarter-weight-tolerance.391192/
My husband brought these home today. I guess they are out and about. I told him if he has more. Can always send one on. some interesting markings on some.
