How hard can it be??? Are they just too freaking lazy to go back and leave feedback on how the service was?????

You can actually track there feedback history for each person on ebay. You can see what feedback they are getting and what feedback they are leaving. What I don't understand is why would someone leave feedback for everyone else but not you?????? I typically send one letter to verify that the person got their package ok and wait a week. After that week passes, I follow up again with another letter just confirming that I sent out the first letter confirming that they got their package/coin and would they leave me feedback as a courtesy.

These morons are leaving and giving feedback all day long, why do they seem to skip over some people and leave it for others?????

I just wanted to see if there are those of you out there that this kind of stuff just drives you nuts. Its about simple courtesy and get off your lazy but and do it. Rate the sale. If the sale sucked, then I want to hear it. But if all went well, well then, I want to hear that too.

Thanks for letting me vent. I better go to bed now.

In the bigger scheme of things does it really matter if somebody leaves you feedback or not for an ebay sale?

    Don't worry about it.

Personally, as a buyer I return all (deserving) feedback and I ignore any letter asking me to leave feedback to a seller. When I am the seller, I leave feedback shortly after I get paid (assuming there was not a problem). Particularly with this new system, there is no reason not to.

When I get payment for a auction, I always leave feedback right away.
I always email that I shipped the package and to please leave feedback when you receive the package. I don't send any other email. I just checked my feedback and it looks like it is working okay. There will also be people out there that are just lazy or don't care.

Feedback is important for the simple fact is that it allows me to know that a buyer has received and item and whether it is in satisfactory condition or not. This is especially important if you have taken out insurance on an item. I save all my paperwork for items that I ship with insurance. I currently have two items which I have saved the paperwork because I bought insurance on them. It has been over a month and I have not heard anything from these people, even after sending two polite reminders to at least let me know if they have even received the item. Forget the feedback part, its just the lack of simple communication, a common courtesy, that lets the seller know that the person has received the item and things are ok or not. How long are you required to hold on to this stuff? How long does the buyer have to notify you that an item was not received or damaged?

I very rarely ever have a problem with receiving feedback from someone whom I have bought something off of. Sometimes I may have to drop a reminder note, but it usually gets done. But when selling, feedback is so much more important, just for the simple reason stated above, IMO. Also, its just a common courtesy to let buyers and sellers alike know if you are a decent seller.

How many times have we read here on CT where someone will mention that they will not buy off of someone who does not have xxx number of feedbacks? I can tell you that there were many times I have seen posts like this. Also, how many times have you seen someone say that they would not allow someone to buy from them unless they had xxx amount of feedback? I have a few times. Feedback does factor in greatly on how people view you. I, personally feel more comfortable doing business with someone who has a large amount of good feedback. There is a comfort level there. When dealing with someone with a small number of feedback, now you are dealing wiht someone like me and who knows what you are going to get. Now, I know the same can be said about a large dealer, but chances are that a larger dealer with higher feedback has already worked out much of the kinks.

Now I know some of you "glass is half empty" members out there are wondering why I am making such a big deal about this...which, in the big scheme of things I could care less about....but this was my gripe tonight so just pardon the interuption.

Richard, what would constitute as "underserving"? Maybe thats the problem is that these buyers feel that I was undeserving.

I have a feeling why first guy might be mad....it is the same reason that I was mad when I bought the coin he now has. So here is the story.......some time ago, I bought a really nice coin from Teletrade. It was a PR70 to add to my collection. When I got it, I was extremely disappointed, but decided to hold on it thinking it would grow on me. Well gang, here is a lesson for you newbies......if you are disappointed with a coin now, you will most likely be disappoined later on. At the time, I should have returned it to TT where I got it from, but decided to hold on to it. Finally it was eating at me and I broke down and bought a new one which was absolutely stunning. So I decided to put this coin up on ebay and see what I could get....except for one thing....I was honest with the condition of the coin and described it very well.....almost too well. I listed it once at my original price as a buy it now. I had no takers, then I started to come down in price big time....each time, still no takers. Meanwhile, all the other PR70 coins were selling for good amounts all around me. Finally I listed it for $50 less than what I had bought it, just so I could flip it and move on. I had a guy make an offer to me that was $70 less than what I paid for it, but I just needed to flip it and move on. He was getting a great deal and I was happy. I even sent him a confirmation email explaining the condition of the coin and asked if he still wanted it and he said yes....so off it went. I was hoping that for the price he paid that he would be extremely happy, but that is not always the case. Anyway, my thought was that he was not happy and refuses to leave feedback based on that because he his leaving feedback for all his other purchases since then.

On one of my coins that I sold, I even had a buyer leave a simple message that said, coin was delievered as expected, should have read the description better. Thats much of the problem with buyers, they don't read the entire description and then are supper disappointed when they get their coin in.

Ok, I can't believe that I have ranted this long....time to go to work. :D

Personally, I hardly ever give feedback. I'm not lazy, I just don't care to. If the item I buy arrives and there isn't an issue with it ..the sale is good. If I have an issue I email the seller to chat about it. Feedback does not let you know the package arrived in satisfactory condition. Silence, the lack of the buyer e-mailing you saying ..dude this coin is messed up...let's you know that all is well and you can move along.

I hate getting the followup emails...it cries "I'm needy" to me and I make it a point never to give those people the satisfaction of receiving feedback. I just dont feel the need to feed the egos of those who are obsessed about feedback.

LOL! Oh Frank....I thought about you last night at my coin club meeting. Someone was trying to sell an unused 1997 hardbound redbook and blue book for $3. The price alone was very tempting.

James, I hate to say this but that thinking is sooooo flawed. That is the problem in todays society. Nobody wants to give positive feedback to reinforce positive behavior, but leaving negative feedback is fine.

Plain and simple that is pure laziness, but not only that, it is pure selfishness. You are do something because it benefits you (by communicating with the seller if something is bad). It takes the same amount of energy, in fact, it takes less energy when you are leaving positive feedback because you are smiling!

Maybe for some those emails are "needy", but for me and others, it is a simple way to make sure everything arrived ok and you are happy. The one the point which I can kinda understand that you make is basically no news is good news. But some people are just slow on communicating with you and that would suck if I were to get rid of my insurance paperwork from the post office because it took someone a month to decide to contact me. Now I have nothing to look back at if there is a complaint.

    I hear you Joe.

eBay doesn't seem to care to send out email reminders to both parties that the duty of leaving feedback is in order after a transaction. I think this would help. eBid does remind you to leave feedback for one another which is a good thing for a starting company with lots of new members to get used to their site features.

I can only guess that no response in feedback from a Buyer is a careless and/or irresponsible or even infrequent eBay Buyer, who also does not have Seller experience. I've considered that perhaps they felt 'neutral' upon receipt of their item and declined leaving any feedback. Perhaps they are Buyers who don't subscribe to the Feedback system knowing all the past problems between Buyers and Sellers, false Feedback profiles, know how eBay manages feedback issues, etc. I sort of look at it like no news is good news rather than getting a really week feedback message like "Good item" or merely "A+" That hardly says anything and is almost as good as having no comment.

Perhaps eBay's Feedback system needs to show that the Buyer hasn't yet left feedback, but the item number of a successful sale should be visibly shown and indicate that the Seller left feedback. Anyone reading a Seller's feedback profile can filter comments you left for others as a Seller (that is left by you for your Buyers), so the truly investigative or inquisitive, can reverse look up your past successful sales and that you follow through with feedback.

If you are sending Insured items and worried the item didn't make it are you also sending with a tracking number? Whether by Delivery Confirmation, Signature required, Registered? All of those should provide you with an online report, visual signature, or receipt upon delivery of the parcel.

There is also the ability to mark your item(s) shipped in the drop down menu on the sold items list. That sends out a message to the Buyer that the Seller marked the item shipped on a specified date. That reminder would be the prefect place for eBay to include a feedback reminder to the Buyer. In your message to the Buyer you can also include your own reminders indicating if and when/how you leave feedback. I understand some Sellers will not leave feedback until after the Buyer leaves feedback, so it's sort of a standoff with some people. It's ridiculous. When selling I feel it's the Sellers responsibility to take the upper road and as soon as an item is paid for and/or as soon as the item ships and before the Buyer can receive it, the Seller should leave their feedback for the Buyer. This impresses many Buyers especially if there's a problem later as I believe it can lessen retaliatory feedback issues from misunderstanding or disgruntled Buyers.

If you haven't registered or used eBid, you might consider getting an account going with them. They are very similar to eBay but really seem to care about feedback at this time.

I think this response illustrates a lot of the frustration Sellers feel about non-responsive Buyers and it's not about ego nor feedback obsession in the least bit. Customer feedback builds good business and adds to trust in the system, helping to ensure other Buyers of this much needed trust in such blind transactions. Now we all know that eBay feedback can be falsified and manipulated by the unscrupulous and in so much Buyers and Sellers must be on their toes to filter out the crap.

James, your response only indicates that of a Buyer's feelings about leaving feedback, but do you also have Selling experience? If not, you may try Selling sometime and perhaps you will feel differently. Perhaps you will not send out follow up reminders because that personally irritates you but that would be your personal way of handling sales. You may not mind that your feedback/Seller rating grows very very slowly and that's fine too. If you haven't been a Seller of anything, I'd highly suggest a few experimental sales and if you have never been a Seller of Coins or Currency, I REALLY suggest you try this. I think it really helps collectors understand both sides of the transaction, despite eBay not being 'professional' coin dealing, it still shines a light on the issues coin dealers face. :thumb:

I left "feedback" on every eBay transaction. I, also, received "feedback" on every transaction. About 75% of the sellers (besides eBay's automatic emails) sent an email notification of order being sent. I utilized Paypal for all my transactions and often found an email notifying me that the order was shipped along with tracking numbers. I never had a beef with eBay, Paypal, or a seller. Out of my hundreds of transactions on eBay, three items were lost in the mail - all three items were later received (1 from another country). There are some quality eBay dealers!

I have only been doing ebay for about six months; mostly buying coins. When I look at an item, the first thing I look at is 'time remaining'; (I try not to be tempted if there's not enough time to think it through). The next thing I look at is 'feedback'. If the number isn't pretty high I won't bid (unless the seller has a large number of sales), I figure you can't make 10,000 people happy.

I have always left feedback because I know how important it is to keep that number high for the very reason I mentioned. There have only been two times I didn't leave feedback. Each time I e-mailed these people and let them know why...presumably, lost in the mail. Neither person ever replied. Non-the-less: I don't leave negative feedback. I have heard horror stories from my own family about people 'getting even' for negative feedback.

Ive got about 3 buyers recently who owe me feedback and I never got it. I find it greatly annoying. It takes less then a few minutes at the most to do so.

I've never not left feedback until just recently. Ordered a P+D set of the Virgin Islands quarters in December. Well, January rolls around and no coins. February shows up and no coins. The guy says he lost his files and wants me to detail what I ordered and he'd get them out. Thats been 3 weeks now. I re-ordered from someone else and they showed in under a week. So, I'm not going to leave that first guy feedback unless the coins show someday. He had 100% feedback on over 10,000 sells so I'm not evil enough to neg him for $1.25.
