http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...56539&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT#ht_5313wt_1165 Hate it when you get too attached with a coin you don't own. :/ Well, there are more fish in the sea, I guess... My high bid was 57 I think...lol When I saw I got outbid, I was trying the one click bid thing, but I was too late. 3 seconds wasn't enough time. So any coins you've lost lately?
Don't let it bother you. That's a Maundy coin there. Its a part of a set of a silver penny, twopence, threepence, and groat. Better to have the whole set, eh?
You did not lose it because you never owned it. You did not lose it because you never owned it. You may have "lost out" on it but not simply did you lose it - that is not possible.
here is the one i lost last night. my top bid was $265 http://cgi.ebay.ie:80/Irish-1-Shill...Domain_0?hash=item2558cf4219&autoredirect=off
T$: There's definitely more fish in the sea! I "lost" the chance at a couple of notes recently but hung around and found the exact same ones relisted for less!... Before I found the relisted notes, I did further research and discovered others like them on other sites that I could pursue. Did you see Clinkers recent thread on Maundy coins? Very much worth the read. I might also suggest that you set up a saved search on eBay in the event that that coin gets relisted. Be sure to include in the saved search terms the certification number of that slab in the event the new (future) seller includes that information in the listing -or- in the event that the coin is returned and relisted by the same Seller of the auction you were out bid on. That's certainly one good thing about slabbed coins, tracking them for future opportunities. :thumb:
That was a beauty. Sorry about that. We all get out bid sometimes. My advice to you is, if you're strictly in a bidding situation, you do NOT want to be the guy sitting there, currently winning it as time ticks down. You will lose at least 90% of the time on nice stuff such as this. If it's something obscure with not a lot of attention, ok. You might have a chance. But something real popular, you will get outbid every time. When people are not winning, and they have time to think about it, emotions take over and they will bid it up at the last second and beat you. That's how the game works. You're only making yourself pay more if you don't wait until the very last second to bid. Because at that point, you could possibly beat out somebody who didn't know you were even there. If you enter it with an hour left and it's just sitting there at that price, somebody will come in and beat you. As I've said before, you CANNOT give people time to think about it. If you really want to get dirty, use bidsniper. Sorry sellers. Enter the auction number, your highest bid, and when you want it to bid for you. (1 to 2 seconds left). Then walk away. You don't have to be there for when the auction ends. It does what you could do if you were sitting there. I've done it both ways and this method works well. Granted, you will not have time to get a second bid in, so give it all you got to clear out whoever is currently winning at the end. This isn't a 100% successful method but you will win many more auctions. (Most people bid in the minimum increments with not a lot of cushion on the high side.) Again, don't even bother bidding until the very end. Somebody will almost always justify paying more to beat you if you're sitting there with the current high bid towards the end.
So maybe you were doing it the right way. Sometimes other people are trying the same thing you are and you don't have a chance. If I really want something, I'll put a high price in and submit the bid with 5 seconds left. By the time you get back, there is no time remaining and nobody else had a chance to get anything in either. Most things I've been interested in lately have been buy it nows or make an offer.
Well Vess, most of the time, I use eBay Countdown. (But I haven't downloaded it on my new laptop yet, and I didn't think I'd win the coin anyway) But of course, I became a little attached to it, and bid it up. I would have had no problem going about 70 for the coin, but no higher, and when I realized I didn't have enough time to enter in 70, I decided to do the one click bid, but I just couldn't do it. Anyway, after crying all day long, and drowning my sorrows in whiskey, I think I'm all better now. lol And Kripsy, that is one heck of a point about slabbed coins!!! Thank Ya. (And thanks for the link to Maundy....I need to look at that thread ASAP!) Thanks Y'all, -Travis
Yup, I lost out on this sunken treasure coin...and really wanted it too; others wanted it more than me I guess...I set what I was willing to pay, and didn't let the excitement get the best of me... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330403901760 -LTB
Yes, I've been the under bidder several times and hated losing the auction. Yet there is always another coin that awaits my money. It helps not having to be locked in on one particular objective. Makes the pain dissipate more easily.
