I was at 64+ with the hits, maybe a 65 but not in the 66 range.

Thanks, I appreciate the positive comments. Theoretically, die state is a mint process issue, and pre release situation. It should not affect the grade of the coin, unless it is grotesque. This coin has minor issues, that actually make it interesting to me.

I would have said MS-64. Too much chatter on Liberty's cheek and to the left in the obverse field for anything higher. The reverse is nicer than the obverse. Overall a nice coin regardless!

There is nothing that keeps the OP coin at sub gem level. I strongly suggest that you look at more Morgans, to get an idea of what a real 64 grade coin looks like, from the “ big two” TPGs.

This is NOT my coin. I picked it at random from eBay. It is graded MS 64 by NGC, and is very typical for TPG grading of MS 64 grading, in today’s market.

I'll pass all the same. The photo looks like a great example of "grade inflation" in today's market. I definitely won't pay MS-64 money for the pictured coin.

I am late to the party again; my vote would have been 1-70. I win, duh!

You are obviously inexperienced in the Morgan market.

I have my standards, sometimes they agree with the "big two," sometimes they don't. After all, it's my money and I'll spend it as I see fit.

Fine, don’t spend it—I certainly don’t care what you do with your money. I am trying to point out that your standards are unrealistic, given today’s market. Consider it a learning experience. Should you not wish to learn, I am totally unsurprised.

Thanks anyway, you may be correct with the standards of today's market, but I choose not to necessarily accept those standards in every case; and the coin and grade in question is one of those cases. We'll agree to having different assessments.

I will agree that some people know how to interpret those standards, and other people do not. As I said 3 times, the coin was definitely a gem grade coin. I also said, it was either a 65, or 65+, that I underpaid for it. Is it a 66? Albanese agrees that it is, but as a couple of people said, CAC loves extremely high luster coins. My guess is your monetary range for comfort is in the 63 to 64 range, and for that money, you will find quite baggy Morgans.

This is how they're grading these, today. From what I just saw on Heritage, this is a solid 66. I'm surprised, I have to say.

This grading debate may be put into simpler terms by saying, "just follow the money."

I bought it as a 65,and think it maxes at 65+. Since I paid on the low side, I am content. It is an attractive coin, but to me, a 66 is kind of unequivocal. This one isn’t.
