Every month Greysheet has another article in its monthly with varying levels of relevance like "the so-called dollar market" and on Mercury dimes in the current issue. Do you find these articles relevant, well-written, and helpful to encourage you and other collectors and dealers to understand in greater depth the nature of numismatics? I would like to see more attention on articles on specific periods in US history when the coinage was produced and its relevance to that cultural period. What would you like to see in the way of articles?
I like them AS-IS, because I consider them a bonus to the price guide and they are better than advertisements.
Since the entire purpose of the newsletter is geared towards value it stands to reason that any articles printed in it be geared towards the coin market. That's what the readers and buyers of CDN want, that's why they buy it. They want to know about values, not history. If you want to know about history related to coins then buy different coin mags. That's what they are for.
I don't get the Gray Sheet, since my collection is mostly Canadian.. My US stuff is mostly Roosies and Ikes and modern Mint issues which I really don't need GS for. My local dealer will give me a past issue for reference if I ask him.
BUMP: I read a few monthly articles that were pretty good from some Greysheet Monthlies that I got from a CT member...good reading. Anybody know where the might be an archive of covers that have the interior articles listed on the cover.... or maybe a list of the articles themselves ?
If you navigate to the CAC Forum, and click on Educational Forums, you will see Threads posted, and the 2nd one down is John Feigenbaum, the President of CDN. He openly answers questions and shares insights there. You can also email him: john@greysheet.com
You can try looking here, but you do have to be signed in to see it - https://www.greysheet.com/publications/library I'm also pretty sure that John is a member of this forum.
I always try and see if there's an existing thread on something rather than create a new one. I like to save digital X's and O's in cyberspace.
There was a good article in the November 2018 GREYSHEET entitled "Is It Time For a New Perspective On Generic Gold." It was a good article, a bit early on timing, and I had some questions on the authors focus on premiums for pre-1933 gold vs. bullion and the price of gold. But overall, a good article, good read, and good information. I'm going to subscribe to get access but if any of you recall any good Saint-Gaudens articles in recent years in the Monthly, let me know.
