Now that we have admitted what it takes for us to have too many coins, it begs the question, what are we going to do about it? I can only answer for myself and that answer is nothing. I’m happy so even though I can admit I have too many coins, I plan on remaining happy, so I’ll not change a thing.

British, German, and Welsh; then branched out to all British Commonwealth of Nations, then British Territories and Dependencies; then former British Territories, Colonies, and Protectorates. Then former German colonies. Getting carried away but it's fun and so many different coins (shapes & sizes). Also, just started on U.S. former Territories and Administrative Protectorates. Too many coins, sure, but adding to history for my daughters and their future kids.

That is a good question. I know I need to take a better inventory on all my coins. Once I get way better organized I might trade/sell 1/3 of my coins that no longer interest me. Yes this does happen. Mostly in the MISC. collection. That happened when I first started collecting with no focus.

I have two coin collections. One is the coins my father left me from WWII years and from all over the South Pacific, and the other is Modern Coins, mostly from the Mint or Mint coins I buy from dealers.
And, yes, I have too many and even at 74, I doubt I will ever quit.

You know you have too many coins when you walk into the room and can notice the floor sagging. LOL

One large safe, two medium safes, two built-in shelves w/doors, one built-in 10 drawer cabinet, one 6'x 4' 2 door closets, one large desk w/high top shelves and cabinets, one very comfortable office chair, and one visitor chair. All in my home office. Oh, and one wife that says, "You know it all goes to our granddaughters." Ha-ha, but you know there mine while I'm still here dear! Enjoyed your post, thanks for asking. Good luck.

I don't call that "too many coins". I call that "Christmas morning and Easter morning, all rolled up into one"!

    Define "too many".

My official u.s. coin collection consists of exactly 2,300 coins.

Unofficial collection of coin-like things I possess, but would not mind if they disappeared, amount to about 20 pieces. These are things like a handful of pocket pieces, a few errors, a few elongated cents and a few pieces of utter crap.

My non-u.s. collection is probably about 100 coins.

I'll know I have enough when I can do this. Until then I'll keep collecting.

I have one attributed by NGC. It is labeled as an improperly annealed planchet error. MS-64/1959. It is an older slab though, so I don’t know if they still do. I don’t see why they wouldn’t still do it.
