This is rather silly but have you ever sold any coins to do something you were't supposed to do ? I did, back in 1982 when I sold 2 Walking Liberty Halves to some kids at school to go to a Black Sabbath concert of which my parents knew nothing about . It got me a ticket , some bud and a good 'ole time . I was 14 and went with friends and still to this day don't remember how I got there or back home . :jawdrop::hilarious::hilarious:
    Here's it's cousin.
If you have a story, Do Tell Please . Thank you

I can count on one hand the number of times that I have sold coins. I have given a lot away, but selling coins just ain't in my gene pool..... One of the few times I sold coins was to purchase a 1959 Fender bass. It was spectacular and came to market at a killer deal so I jumped. I never dug coins out of my safe that fast before or since.

When I was flat broke I spent a bunch of Kennedy halves I had saved on cigarettes. That's as close as I can come to the "not supposed to do" part. Otherwise I have never sold a coin.

One time some kid in middle school brought some coins to school for me to look at. He wanted to sell them to me because he knew I collected them. There were two decent Flying Eagle cents and a three cent silver. Nice F-VF shape. I think I paid him $30 for them, which back then was probably fair. I just knew I didn’t have either one of those types and I wanted them. But he gave me this elaborate story about how he found them in an outdoor runoff drain, in a bag, at his Uncle’s house, etc etc. I don’t remember being suspicious as a kid, just amazed, but now that I think about it…. He probably just stole them from his Mom’s jewelry box or something, lol.

My Dad famously tells the story of his Grandfather giving him 30 Morgan Dollars to keep back around 1955, which he promptly took to the store and spent buying a new fishing pole and gear. The shopkeep was more than happy to take them.

I sell coins in my antique shop but those are not part of my collection. I can’t think of anytime I’ve ever considered selling a coin. I just hoard, err, collect them.

I sold 8 lots of Silver coins about a month ago..
The $420.00+ Bucks I made went to spending money for my recent vacation

I purchased a new Armitron Watch and a 24" silver chain during my stay there.

I sold 40 Morgan and Peace dollars, nothing more than common dates with average grade around "Fine" to "VF." These went up for sale as individual coins on a very popular online auction site back in 2019. I spent the proceeds to pay the $600 plus grading/shipping costs to have my best Morgan and Peace dollars graded by PCGS. Many of them came back with "Details" grade and I quickly found out some of the pitfalls of buying raw coins in the wild without really understanding what cleaned coins look like. I should have taken the "best" ones to a friendly LCS to seek opinion on whether they were "good enough" to send off for grading. If I were considering sending anything in for grading now, I'd get one or two "opinions" first on the probability of grading success BEFORE sending them off with stars in my eyes.

Hmmmmm, I am selling every coin I own currently. Forty percent or so of what I do I should not be doing. Puppies like me though, so I cannot really be all that bad of a person can I???

Maybe five years ago, I had some bills that had to be paid. It was hard to decide what coins I had to sell but in the end I had to get rid of a large cent set, Indian head cent set, liberty head nickle set and Buffalo nickle set all complete sets. I was happy to be debt free but what a way to go. Regards.

When I was a teenager I sold three nice 19th century US stamps so I could get $10 to buy the White Album.
