Some pretty...some pretty ulgy.....some pretty rare.....some absolute crazy....all un appreciated. Kanga please post your collection as well your new 83/2 Again another series that othan a slot in a 7070 album is mostly over looked. There are more varieties in this series that have not yet been found compared to the known varieties. Die cracks, ddo's,ddr's cuds, rpd's., over dates, and some of the wildest things one wouldn't expect to find on a coin. Shields are the first nickels, they weight 5 grams but are a tad bit smaller in diameter. Most shield dies only lasted <10,000 strikes...and a series that doesn't tribute a dead president , but a majestic shield, a 5 on its reverse for the common man to know its value.... Let's see whatcha got....
All I have are my lowly 7070 examples. Both were under $5 so I can't complain. I would definitely like to upgrade them some day.
Personally I've been looking for an uncirculated slabbed shield nickel for my collection. Just haven't found the one. When I was a kid, my grandfather gave me a bunch of coins and a worn shield nickel in AG. The date was barely readable. It was my favorite coin of the lot. When I acquire said piece, I may revisit the thread with a picture! Nice coins everybody.
I only have a couple, the nicest one is in my Capital holder. This thread reminds me how I love the one with rays, I need to get me one
posted before in errors, but hey, you asked, these guys are cool, straight and to the point, and in 1883, people like mindedly gold plated and passed as gold, lol this guy accompanied by his favorite side kick, and a buffalo..has some planchet issues both sides
