wow!! broadstruck, mad, struck through? or indent, partial? or lamination..very sparkly coin great eye appeal, i hope you enjoy this awesome coin, love multiple error, even if only 2 out of 3 ring true, still a keeper...
As said above, it's a broadstrike, not a MAD. I've seen this 'double indent' effect on a few other cents of that era - they don't appear to be indented by planchets, (possible though), but I can't know for sure what was laying on top of the planchet when struck. ....and I believe they are indents of some type, not the usual 'struck through' material.(grease, oil, etc.) (just my view)
Interesting Fred. Approximately how many coins have you seen like this? I would have stuck to my guns, if you hadn't said anything. Thanks for the info.
Can't remember exactly, but I'd say at least 8-10 of them over the past 20+ years. They were dated 98/99/2000, as I recall.
bend? that is just shoeing the other side of the (??indent), struck through area...not bent, coin lays flat
Something hard impacted the planchet during the strike that partially blocked the obverse die. I never understood why these are referred to as "strike throughs" and not ""struck intos."
Yes, I understand what happens with an indent, that is not your common "indent". Your third side photos make it look bent in the area.
