New Coin - 1883/2 Shield Nickel PCGS XF-40

    Shield nickels are a secondary collection for me.
    A small set and not particularly expensive, particularly if you:
    -- ignore proofs (which I do)
    -- stick to XF/VF.
    1880 is pricey so I'll have to drop back a few grade levels for that one.

    But I couldn't pass up this variety.

    John very nice variety,... do you have the "76 bleeder?" Are you planning on Timonium show Sunday?

    Nice coin. Good that you got it slabbed. There are several varieties that look like the 3/2, and people try to market them as such, but they're not the "real deal."

    Neat coin. It's nice to see an overdate that is easily visible.

    agreed, I remember walking a local show a number of years ago and telling 3 dealers that their 3/2 was not the overdate. Two believed me, one didn't and didn't care.

    There are five different varieties (five different dies) that ARE overdates but four of them are hard to tell.
