With Doug recently pointing out in the Frank Robinson blog posted here earlier today in regards to the aging dealer. Below is an illustrated article regarding 20-30-year-olds embracing coin collecting & social media. It's possible within 10-20 years nearly all dealing will be online? Time will tell. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/21/...coin-numismatists.html?searchResultPosition=1
That link doesn't work for me, but this one does: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/21/...coin-numismatists.html?searchResultPosition=1
I don't know how long ago you changed your avatar... but I LOVE IT! ps, when I click on thy link it says, not found
Probably nearly all online in the future, but shows probably will survive better than brick and mortar outlets. The latter seem to be hanging on by a thread. It also seems to me that interest in the classics is on the wane, don't know how much that will influence the pace of new collectors.
I’m 38 mate! I always assumed I was a young collector but I think (and hope) we are not young collectors. Also, can’t get link to work
The article was in graphic/art format and it was posted on the PCGS boards for anyone who couldn't get the links to work. So basically it can be read below. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1070135/younger-collectors-discussing-why-they-collect
Neither can I Social media is a complete waste of time and energy. I see it all time, esp. when working downtown, everyone walking around like "zombies" looking at their phone Worst of all, they also do it while driving on the freeway....
Not really, since its a forum for serious intellectual debate/ sharing coin pics to enhance numismatics Facebook etc., are mainly used for kitch topics, like what you had for breakfast at MacDonalds/ gossip
Not necessarily. There are plenty of "serious" discussion groups on Facebook. Many of them are private, and can be viewed by group members only.
