@Kellyrae18. Not so much super weird as super environmental damage. Notice how the clad layers seem to be splitting at the edge? Too much exposure to harsh substances. Spend it while you can. Keep searching and keep posting.
It's a Cupro-Nickel clad over an inner coppper core planchet. The copper in between the two clad layers has eroded away on the edge due to harsh reaction to elements. Most likely acid. The clad was also affected. Look at it again.
For you maybe. I happen to be the world leader in pull tabs and screw off wine bottle tops when I am beach detecting.
I agree with the above that the damage was caused by some sort of corrosive. I have a dime with the identical type of damage.
For what it is worth, there are magicians coins that have a groove machined into the edge that look similar to the OPs coin. The quarter is usually laser cut into three pieces. They fit together and a rubber band is stretched into the groove to hold it together. At a casual glance you do not notice any of these modifications. The “trick” is it folds when magically inserted into a beer bottle and reappears flat at the bottom of the bottle. Don’t make bets with people you meet in bars! The OPs coin is not one of these since it definitely is one solid coin.
Cool. I had one years ago when I dabbled a bit in magic. It was a neat trick. The rubber bands all eventually broke but they could be ordered. I don't know what happened to my magic quarter
You mistakenly labeled it an error and it’s filed with all the real errors you do have. Your double wide bed is about to be doubled stacked but then, you can’t have enough error coins. Lol
I have a magic dollar. Spend it and magically it disappears. I'll try with coins and let you know what happens K. Enjoyed your post, thank you!
ED, environmental damage, as stated above. I still have my magicians foldable quarter. Rubber bands sold for braces fit the grove.
