Grats on the indian head cent! Very cool.

I was able to complete the Ike book my dad started years and years ago (probably around 74 as he didn't have the bicentennial coins but did have 73 and 74). Great to finish something he started. Still got a lot of Ikes left from the bank :)

Haven't gotten through the halves yet, doesn't look like any silver though.

Question, if it is a silver-clad coin, will it still have a copper colored layer on the edge? From what I was reading a silver-clad still has a 20% silver core so I'd think it would be silver (just like a cupronickel coin can be mostly copper, but still look silver in color). If not, how can I tell if it is a silver clad coin vs. cupronickel clad?

Feels good to be back on a good box of cents. About about halfway though 5-10 coppers a roll. Three wheats all from the 50s, and two copper Canadians.

Conpewter the silver clad will not have the sandwich look of a cupronickel clad. They will be a uniform silver color sometimes with black if the grooves have toned.

All key and semi-key dates absent.
No DD obv nor rev, no Double MM , no RPM's and no errors of any kind.
3 out of 50 coins were in AU condition and they were common dates. 1943 Steel AU , 1956-d AU & 1958-d AU.
35 of the remaining coins were far below G4 condition and some you could hardly read the dates.
    The ( 12 coins ) close to G4 were dated ( 1944 to 1958 ) and needed a VF-20 condition to be worth more than 1 penny.
Under 3 X magnification , more than half of these 50 coins look like they were cleaned and then artificially toned.

TOTAL = $9.93 in red book value
TOTAL= $4.97 in blue book value

Awesome find! Searching through pennies makes for a long weekend, but I guess there are some amazing finds after all. :hatch:

Thanks! I was beginning to tell myself "this is stupid" by getting $25 boxes of pennies, getting my hands dirty from who knows what sorting through them. And then I find the 1864! I'm sure there are better ways to spend my time, but I'm going to get another box on Monday. Or two!

alicechaos: The copper-mickel indian cent will be thicker than the normal cent...and usually lighter in color

Thanks! I compared it with my only other indian cent, a 1909, which according to Whitman Blue Book, would be bronze. The 1909 appears thicker, and lighter in color than the 1864. Hmmmm

Lynn coin in Tenn. sold me some Wheaties that I really like. Granted, I may not be very picky.

I appreciated what I received. One bag had mostly 1950, but had a few in the 20's, and 30's, and several in the 40's. Another bag had mostly 1940's, and a few teens. Dates were all good. I felt very lucky.

I picked up 400 rough Merc. Dimes last week. Most of the dates were legiable, but not all. Most were in the 20's. That was the part I liked. The old man gave me a deal, 1.20 each.

    un-real penny roll prices

I cannot believe my eyes at the price of penny rolls on eBay right now.
bids on single rolls are $41.00 to $77.00 and the auctions are not over.

Silver clad are the 40% ers. they have the silver side. they were only from 1965-1969

1971 onwards are clad halves. they have no silver content.

Thanks! I know you can normally tell by the date, but some of the 1976 halves are silver clad, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any of those. Also from 1992 on any of the San Fransisco mint halves could be silver clad. (Could have been broken out of proof sets) Looks like 2005 onward even the P or D halves could be silver clad as well.

Looked through my halves last night, started a date/mint collection, nothing exciting but did get a lot of ground covered.

Not much with 6 boxes of halfs this week- around 10 total pieces.

I decided to see if I would find anything in a 1K bag of quarters yesterday from the coin changing machine.

Naturally, not one silver quarter, but I did find these 2 real nice 2009P 25 Cent DC Quarters. :)

One is the (Coneca) DDR-007 and the second one is the (Coneca) DDR-
    011 * Variety Vista site*

I really like the 011- the second E stands out very nicely.(IMHO)

First 2 pics are the 007 and the last 2 the 011.

    Hey cerdsalicious,

When are we going to see your stats on 1200 boxes of halves? I've been looking forward to seeing what and how many you've found over that many boxes. Hopefully you can post them soon.

    Thanks...Jeff.
