Got this 1952 Wheatie I could use some help with the ID. I looked at Wexlers and Variety Vista but would like opinions on which one this is. The coins displays a nice red inhand even though my photos don't show it. Is this considered a repunched mint mark or a DDO? and which Variety Vista number? 005, 008, 017, 019 or some other I may have missed?
Mint Marks were hand punched into the die in 1952.. So it definitely can't be Doubled Die. That should narrow it down for you
Brians varieties show only about 35 different RPMs in 1952 S. You got your work cut out for you comparing MMs. Brian's Variety Coins - 1952 One Cent Repunched Mintmarks (briansvarietycoins.com)
That wasn't an easy MM to identify, What was hard to find was the common denominators. Your detailed photos of the die Scraches on the obv. And worn die state Rev. Really helped to eliminate quite a few of the possibilities. Also, the perimeter die gouges and placements. Thanks for the good, detailed photos.
Again, thanks so much for the help. I'll need to start paying closer attention to the details. Nice thing was right after I found the 1952 S I also found a 1953 S! Pretty sure this one is the 1953-S RPM 002.
